June 18, 2009 - Titleist Brand Ambassador Brent McCullough from Pymble Golf Club in NSW, has created history in winning a third consecutive QLD PGA Trainee Championship after carding a round of even par 72 at Peregian Springs Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast.Brent McCullough

On an overcast day that was visited by constant coastal showers, McCullough was the shining light, and in the testing conditions was able to maintain his lead over the field finishing the tournament with a total of 11 under par (277). In outright second place was Victorian Leigh Deagan (Titleist Pro V1 Ball, Fairway, Irons,Vokey Wedge) from Murray Downs Golf Club who finished with a four round total of seven under par (281).

Last year Deagan pushed McCullough to the final hole, and was intent on creating some pressure on the early six shot lead and then pounce if the opportunity arrived. However McCullough was able to produce the level of golf that had left him in such a commanding position after the third round, his lead was never threatened throughout the round. "Over the last five holes I felt really comfortable and enjoyed the finish with the five shot buffer".

McCullough was not so comfortable at the end of his first nine finding the hazard on holes seven and nine. However on both holes he was able to scramble to the hole and made two putts from twenty foot to make a par. McCullough said "I am really pleased that although I did not feel that I hit the ball as well as I could, I was still able to get the job done" McCullough’s triumph has rewritten the history books and allowed him to go one up on one of the biggest names in world golf, Greg Norman.

McCullough said; "it is such a great feeling to have won this event again, and to be on the trophy three times in a row is unbelievable" Deagan who has now finished second to McCullough in the last two years at this event was in awe of playing partner.

”It was a pleasure again to play with Brent, and I am sure I will look back on this one day and be proud that I was playing these events with him" Deagan was able to put his horror first round of 76 behind him, and come back with great rounds of 67, 68 and today a round of 70.
