Our friends at TPI just shared another amazing case study with us. Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips recently spent a day with Titleist Brand Ambassador Anders Albertson, who had come to TPI after persistent lower back pain had sidelined him on the Korn Ferry and PGA Tours. Check out the video above and see how Anders' physical limitations had impacted his swing and how Dave and Greg put him on the road to recovery with some eye-opening evidence that what we feel isn't real...

    More About the Video...

Anders turned pro in 2015 after a decorated career at Georgia Tech. He’s won multiple times on the Korn Ferry Tour, but has recently taken a medical extension after he started to experience lower back pain.

Anders' physical screen revealed that he had several mobility restrictions, especially on his trail side. Limitations in the hip or thoracic spine are extremely common in golfers who are experiencing back pain. When golfers don’t rotate well through their "mobile joints," they often compensate by trying to turn through "stable segments." This can cause excessive stress on the joints, potentially contributing to his injury.

When he was asked what was going on with his game, Anders said he felt that he could hit it higher and straighter than he had been. He added that he felt like he was hanging back on his right side and not getting to his left side soon enough. In the hitting bay, force plate and pressure data painted a different picture, showing that Anders was actually loading into his left side during his swing. The solution was to have Anders set up with more weight and pressure in his right side at address. This then allowed him to apply pressure into the ground and move left in a more efficient and powerful pattern.

After spending some time to key in on this new feeling, Anders' swing began to look more stable and athletic and within a few reps he was seeing significant improvement in his ball flight.

Thanks to TPI for sharing this experience and best of luck to Anders as he gets healthy and back into full form!

I can certainly identify with what Anders has had to deal with. I was never very flexible and rupturing a disc in my lower back only created more limitations. I've always known feel isn't real, but this gives me some specifics to look for when I video my swing. I guess this is the next best thing to actually visiting TPI for a session. Great work by Anders and the TPI team!

    Wonderful video Rick, thank you!
  4. I always thought it was just me that could not easily determine "real" from "feel"! Great video!!

Yep, I can remember the first time I saw my swing on video. After loosing my lunch, I couldn’t believe how different my swing looked from where I thought the club was traveling.

Some real light blub moments there - for both Anders and the rest of us. Awesome content!
Anders - "More is keep it here longer or pushing more?"
Greg - "Yes." had me laughing.
Great work by Anders, Greg and Dave! Looking forward to following Anders progress.

I've spent this calendar year working with a Class 2 TPI instructor (online). This has enabled me to get the unused part of my body back into play. I've also finally understood the kinematic sequence. I have wondered what the pressure mats can do for the average player. Ok, got it. My biggest swing issue is not getting all my weight onto the lead side through the swing. Primarily by not rotating hips to load the lead side. Which is annoying as it is my trailing side with minor rotational restriction. I can get easily get the full turn to the lead side. My swing coach was able to identify it and work on changing my swing.

This video brings it all home to me. Now if I can make a corrected swing my consistent new habit.

For those that have gone through the TPI experience in Ocean Side, do they recommend a local TPI instructor to work with over time? Flying halfway across the US every month is not convenient for f/u.
