  1. Hey TT! I'll be taking a trip down to Atlanta over Father's day weekend and the wife has graciously agreed to let me splurge on a round of golf while we're down there! Was hoping the TT community could help with suggestions on some higher end (public) courses in the Atlanta or Stone Mountain area. The Stone Mountain courses look nice but I wanted to see what else was out there. Thanks in advance!

  2. Jay....Country Club of the South is a great venue, but it's semi-private and I believe you need to know a member to get on. Might be worth a shot.....worse thing they can is tell you no:-)

Just north of the city is Chateau Elan. It's worth it.
  4. Which track is better? The Chateau or The Woodlands?

Bear's Best is up in that Northeastern side, I hear great things about it, although I haven't played it. I'm up on the NW side and in Atlanta traffic, that's a haul and then some.
  6. Smoke rise country club is a great course! Very challenging (If you play from the tips) overall great time there.
  7. Thanks for the responses! I'll definitely look into those. Have you guys heard anything good about Echelon Golf Club?
  8. Bears Best is a good track, I haven't played there in sometime but good condition with fast greens. Stone Mountain club is nice. Not sure what kind of drive you are in for, but the lake oconee courses are all solid. Chateau Elan, Windemere, and Hamilton Mill on the North East side are all good too

The Frog in Villa Rica (way better than it sounds.) Echelon in Alpharetta. Those are good choices. I'm also on the northwest side, but I'll be away that week. Have fun! Atlanta is a great city for golf.

Check out Smoke Rise Country Club...it is in the Stone Mountain area.
  11. Again, thank you for the recommendations! I have narrowed it down to Echelon or Chateau Elan. Which course is better at Elan? The Chateau course or the woodlands?

Personally, I think Woodlands is the better of the two courses. The Chateau course is a good bit easier, but I think Woodlands is a better layout. Haven't played there recently, but both are typically in similar shape. If you are a member of a private club, it may be worth having your Head Pro call and see if he can get you on the private course there . . . The Legends - good course, with limited play and a tough test.

Echelon is a good one also, particularly if you are a low handicapper.

I played Stone Mountain and liked it. You have to pay to get in the park as well as golf FYI. We played 36 and had a blast.
I also played Cobblestone and really liked that. I remember it winding around the water. It had a really good layout and some tough but fair holes. It wasn't too far away from Atlanta.
