Wind and ball changing

  1. I play on courses near the ocean. They tend to play 9 holes with the wind and 9 holes into the wind. I have been playing the X down wind and switching to the Pro V into the wind. I definitely see a higher flight in the X so that is my reasoning. Make any sense or just another golfer's quixotic overthinking? My main ball is the X but I have been switching on windy days for a while.

I recommend sticking with the Pro V1x for the entire round.

Switching your ball changes every shot in your game. I'd just stick with the ball that gives you the best performance.

I agree with the others. Stick to the ProV1x if that's your gamer...

I live in Mt Pleasant, SC and when I take that 30 minute driver down to Kiawah Island to play the Ocean Course, I play my Prov1, regardless of the conditions. It's the ball I am used to playing and I like the way it feels. That is one tough golf course, home of the 1991 Ryder Cup and the Sr PGA Championships and the PGA Championships recently. Main thing, stay with your game ball.

I brought this up with the Titleist fitting guys at a fitting last month. I too did the same many times, playing the Pro V1 in wind and Pro V1x without. They also suggested staying with the one I felt was best for me or fitted best ALL the time, saying again more things change than the wind. So it's Pro V1x all the time.
  8. I would suggest staying with the same since the two ProV1 Balls have slightly different performance characteristics which the OP was referring to. That being said, I only play one model during a round so that I obtain more consistency with my ball. If you MUST play different balls the ProV1x will launch higher and feel firmer while the ProV1 will launch lower but spin more while being softer around the greens. So pick your preference and good luck!

    Grindelwald,

to me it doesn't make sense to switch you ball only because of the wind! Never heared that someone on the PGA does the same.
rather grab one club more and swing a bit less strong into the wind. Give it a thought

Too much thinking can hurt your head and your game
  11. I think you are overthinking it. I would try and work on hitting lower ball flight shots into the wind with one ball. Also, if you play in certain higher level competitions you are not allowed to switch the brand of the ball. Check with the committee if you are playing in a tournament.

Play whichever ball gives you the most confidence without cluttering your mind. This darn game is hard enough.
