After almost 15 years away from the game, I re-committed myself this year. I prefer to walk, and I prefer to play Titleist, but in the past, I was always guilty of finding several other balls (Never a fresh Pro V1, though) along the way. I would put them in the bag, but invariably would pull them out when I needed another ball.

So this year, my New Year's Resolution was to get back into the game and work hard to get to a 1 HDCP. My mantra this year has been, "If i'm going to play like a pro, I should practice and play like a pro." One of the things I forced myself to do was to only play a Titleist Pro V1 on the course. I usually play one round, and if it makes it the entire round, I put it in the shag bag. The shag bag contains only Titleist Pro V1's for practice to develop consistent feel around the greens and bunkers. For putting practice, I always use new Pro V1's out of the sleeve. Of course, since putting doesn't put much trauma on the ball, these go back into the sleeve to be used on the next round.

All of the other balls I find along the way still go in the bag. Then I pull them out on my next range session and fire away. I figure that TM or Cally ball is still better than the yellow rocks on the range. This also removes the temptation to play a scrub ball when I fear the water.

I only ever take a ball out of play if scuffed badly on path or tree. I also play 2 balls so if the next hole doesn't have a washer, I still have a clean ball to address. Or if the Gods steal another one, I'm ready to drop. I'll carry 3 in cooler temps and rotate each hole for a warmer ball to drive. Since I average a gift to the Gods a round, I doubt any ball make it to a fourth round.

Like the previous replies looks like a LOT of US play as many rounds possible withe the same ball. Probably the truest statement regarding or choice of equipment: Titleist Pro V1 or 1X. My guesstimate ( probably will track in 2016 - in addition to the other stats: GIR, Fairways, Putts etc. et al) a sleeve of the X's lasted 16 18 hole rounds + 16 9 hole league rounds., or 24 rounds - average 8 rounds a ball.

I have one of those older guy, not too long, but straight games. I rarely loose balls, and if not lost, after 2-3 rounds depending on condition, I will take the ball out of play. I have a bag of about 100 used Titleists. Don't need any more so I either give it to one of my pals, or leave it by a tee box for the kids to pick up.

When I'm in the groove I can go a round or two before losing a ball. With that said, I will still play a Titleist regardless of how many trips to the golf store I need to make.

I've been 10 rounds, 17 holes with one ProV1x. Lost it on the 18th hole of my 11th round. I will typically play with a ball as long as it doesn't have cart path rash or some other damage. It was still flying as well as the day I took in out of the sleeve.

I live in the North East also (Ohio). Fall golf is my favorite and that generally is the time I lose the most balls, either under leafs of slightly off fairway where the blowers didn't clear the leaf's.

I play my Pro V1 till I lose it or it gets scuffed bad enough that it won't putt well. They bad boys are way too expensive to switch that often.

Managed to win two events in a row with the same ball (once a +1 and once a -1)

After that I put the ball in my shelf to not lose it :)

About 40 holes was the most I've gotten out of a ball. It just depends on the wear. In FL, if your ball hits the fronds on a palm tree, It's like it went thru a bunch of knives. The fronds are sharp. I guess if I average it out It's a round per ball.

I will usually play 1 ball per round - on occasion will change after 9 holes to a new one.

When mine gets scrapes, any kind of marks, or nicks it goes out. As long as it doesn't show serious wear, I'll keep playing it.

Wow I wish my ball stuck around that long :( longest 2 rounds of 18 holes tops usually 1-1/2 rounds and its pull out another prov but that's why they sell um by the dozen lol

They've grown out a load of long rough at our place this year so i'm lucky if i get a full 18 out of a ball at the moment!

Typically one 18 hole round. If it's still in decent shape, I'll play it another 9. Otherwise it's going in the shag bag.

Interesting concept; that is playing with the last ball for one hole.

For me it all depends on what the ball looks like. I would say no more than three rounds though.

In a 3 ball rotation per round, I'm not sure how many rounds the ball goes for. I generally have a few (about 6) used balls in the bag that I'd like to use again until they either loose the shine, gets lost or scuffed/cut. It's always nice to start with 3 fresh balls for every 6 holes... like a fresh glove when you break it out on the first tee.
