I just looked at the 2018-19 tour schedule and it seems like some of the smaller market tour stops are getting squeezed in between bigger draw tourneys. I guess we'll need to wait and see how it all works out.

  2. Definitely not a fan of Firestone being taken from the WGC events. Especially with no possibility of hosting a major within the next decade.

Hopefully they can get an LPGA event as I would love to attend and support that tour!

My old local favorite when I lived in Texas was Colonial. I used to be a marshal on hole #14. The new schedule moves the PGA from August to the week before Colonial. I hope it wont suffer too bad from guys wanting a week off after a major. Too many great names on that wall not to keep it strong.

Yeah, they're changing it a lot.. Not sure I'm liking this. We'll see how it goes next year...

Do we know who was pushing for this? Players? Sponsor?

I wouldn't think the players were pushing for this and I'm not real certain that sponsors will like it either...look at the tourney's before and after the VALSPAR, do you think it get a good field next year and the same for the Colonial. Several others having big events before and after that may make the smaller event end up with a lesser field. Most of what I've read says it's the tour trying to finish all the big fall events (Tour Championship playoffs, Ryder Cup, President's Cup) before football starts.

I'd say a combination of both. I know the players wanted the reduced playoff schedule from 4 to 3 and the players and sponsors of Florida events wanted the "4 in a row" Florida swing back but now there is several gaps between Texas tournaments. PGA of America wanted to expand southern course options where August was just too hot. It will be interesting to see how it plays out over the next couple of years.

I am excited to have an event in Detroit next year.
I live in southeast Michigan, so it is on my back yard
  8. I'm waiting to see how this affects the tour players time off. With the majors roughly 4 weeks apart there will not be a lot of time off in between. Currently Some off the tour players don't play for 3 - 4 straight weeks.

I like the new major setup April, May, June and July with the Player's back where it belongs in March. Also like that the Playoffs are only 3 weeks. Sorry to see Firestone gone. Great venue, remember back when it was the World Series of Golf. Last big event of the season back then.
  10. I think the PGA wanted to finish things off before football season. Hard to compete with cfb and NFL.
