  1. I just booked a trip for second year in a row for Kohler, Wi, I’m going with my dad for his first time up there. We are playing all four of the courses on property that week. My question is should I add Erin Hills to the trip or perhaps the Bull which is listed as a top 100 you can play. Just wanted see if anyone’s played Erin Hills and or the Bull and what there thoughts were. Thanks in advance!

Being a local, I would recommend skipping the Bull. Play Erin Hills, Sand Valley or the Links at Lawsonia all of these are a much better play than The Bull. If you have connections to get on a private course, I'd recommend Pine Hills or Blue Mound as both are near Kohler and great plays.

Any tips on where to try and get on during the Ryder Cup next year? Will be my first time in WI.

The Bull will be the nearest public course to Kohler. Plenty of good courses in Wisconsin to play. A lot of it will depend on where you are staying and how far you want to travel to play. I would imagine that Erin Hill and Sand Valley will be booked up for the week with the influx of people attending the Ryder Cup.

We went ahead and booked a place in Green Bay, but are trying to pull some strings we have to book a place in Kohler. Erin Hills is on the list possibly as a Monday morning round before a late flight out. Hoping it won't be as crazy then.

If you are staying in Green Bay there are a few good options. For public play Thornberry Creek (have held an LPGA event here in the past) and Brown County are great options. On the private side the choices would be Oneida and Green Bay Country Club. Some other options that are nearby would be: Sentryworld, Stevens Point CC, Sand Valley and the Links at Lawsonia. If you are wanting to play Erin Hills, The Bull or Sand Valley you can never try to book those rounds too soon as I am sure they will be very popular choices among those that are looking to get a round of golf in while attending the Ryder Cup.

I can only speak for Erin Hills and when I played it, it certainly didn't disappoint. I almost enjoyed it as much as Straits to be honest. I know that may sound crazy but Erin Hills was special.

Also, Tyler knows his stuff so I would consider his recommendations. Have a great trip!
  10. I think I’ll be calling Erin Hills and adding it to the trip, thanks for the suggestions!

Erin Hills for sure. Great accommodations right on property. Same for Sand Valley - a newer development by the Bandon folks, and a spectacular golf destination, also with great on-site accommodations.

Erin Hills is ok. I would play Sand Valley and Links at Lawsonia before going to Erin Hills.

Relative to The Ryder Cup, Kohler/Sheboygan areas are way short of hotel space during a PGA event. For the 2015 Championship, $300 a night if any rooms were available within 50 miles was common. We finally got rooms for $249 2 weeks out 15 miles away due to a cancellation.

I should start booking soon as I know I will be working the event as a volunteer. I could commute the 2 hours each way from my home if I can't find a room closer than an hour.

During the US Women's Open in 2012 at Blackwolf, the Irish course was available. Kohler will know if the Blackwolf courses will be open during the Ryder. I'd be surprised if the American Club or the Inn on Woodlake weren't already closed for booking during that week.

An alternative to flying to Milwaukee is flying to Madison or Green Bay. Both are more convenient to Sand Valley if adding that to the Ryder Cup trip.
