Anyone else seeing the same thing with the Steel Brushed finish? Does it really wear any more than the SM6 Steel Gray or the new Jet Black?

When being custom fit earlier this week I was very disappointed with how the face of the brushed steel and jet black became marked up after a couple shots indoors off a mat. I'll either choose the raw finish or chrome.

If a wedge consistently gets the ball out of the sand it's the best we can hope for- scratches we have to accept- the only material I have seen that has good resistance to abrasion from sand is Beryllium Nickel- unfortunately this material has been banned

While Vokeys look like art, deep down they are tools. Any tool you use is going to show signs of wear. I'm certain it won't affect the performance, and if it does Titleist will make it right.
Personally I get the raw finish on my Vokeys and anticipate the used look of a trusty wedge.

Chrome is definitely not the finish if you want to minimize the appearance of scratches.

I do not know of many wedges that have a high level of performance that will not scratch in sand, especially the coarse kind. Sorry to hear about it, my wedges always show wear out of sand and other conditions over time...

I picked up a set of SM6 in steel gray when the price recently dropped before the SM7 launch, and I’m glad I did.

I checked out the SM7 brushed steel on launch day, and I’m disappointed. The finish looks cheap. I hate to hear about your wedge, but I did think that would happen to me if I played them.

Could you please be more specific about your club being scratched up.
Are you talking about the club sole being scratch up- what part of the club?
What grounds conditions were you playing from?
Was it a full shot or were you chipping?

Wedges + Sand = Scratches....If you want pristine Wedges leave them in the plastic.

Not sure what you would expect.. I mean, all clubs are meant to get beaten, dirty, filthy and dinged up.. That's golf.. Trust me i would love my clubs to be immaculate all the time but playing with dirt, sand, etc. it ain't gonna happen..

Only silly advice is to swing with an iron cover to save the beauty OR buy another one and hang it on your wall..

Congrats on the new wedge. The SM7s are another great Vokey offering. As beautiful as wedges are when they are new, at the end of the day they are a tool. I like to view the scratches and dings they take on as 'experience'.

I noticed that both the Black and Brushed Steel have this problem and that was just the ones on display in stores. Probably just from little knocks with people picking them up. Made my mind up that I will deal with the glare of the Chrome!

Hate to break it to you, but sand is a natural abrasive and it doesn't really matter what finish you have, you're going to get scratches. Some finishes just show scratches more easily than others. This is not a quality issue it is an issue of expectation - as in your level of expectation does not match the reality of what happens when an abrasive is used on metal. Sorry 'bout ya.

Bunker shots are basically the most abrasive shots for a club face. Once sand gets between the face and ball no finish will hold up to that.

Wedges are the one club that looks better scratched, in my opinion. If I got a bad break and my ball it sitting on a rock and I need to work some magic with the shot, you better believe I grab a wedge. I don't want that mark on my beautiful regular irons, but on my wedge, it tells a story and makes me smile when I look at it and remember.

Also, it's the only club I have to replace at least every year. Sucks to scratch it when it's brand new, but you have to strike a wedge with confidence. Try to make those marks in it! You'll likely hit better wedge shots if you do.
