Simply, YES! I've played Vokey for almost my entire life and never found them to be for "better" players. The line up of differnt grinds and bounces makes them sutiable for all. I would HIGHLY recommend being properly fited to find the right conbimation for you and you will never look back.

If you like to play golf, you want nice equipment and you want to buy some, then go for it! You wont be disappointed

This wedge setup works just about everywhere. I decided to keep it simple. For most golf courses, I trade off between the SM6 60-12 (58*) and WW 58-06K. For places like Torrey Pines, use 58-12D and 60-06K (58*). 46-52-58-64.

I agree with the answers above. The main thing for me is to say get fit by a good fitter in your area. A good fitting will make a huge difference in how the wedges can perform for your game.

Don't let that advice sway you, as most guys hitting forged clubs shouldn't be there either. Try a standard loft/mid bounce wedge and start working on it. I personally don't think most golfers can see/feel the difference in grind/bounce on a wedge. We're not that good!

My first ever Vokey was a 258-12. My first ever Titleist 64 was an SM2. Been playing Vokeys exclusively since 2012. My biggest complaint is the 64* loft went out as a production model after SM5. 2nd biggest was when they raised the bounce on K grind to 14* after SM6. The Wedgeworks 64W was OK but doesn't compare to the PM Grind 64/10. The best thing I just discovered is the low bounce K. I bought the 58-06K in April and am rather pleased at how versatile it is. I just got the 60-06K because I use D grind (58-12D bent to 56*) as a sand wedge. I also have an SM6 60-12D that I got pretty cheap ($35) and bent it to 58*. Being brutally honest, the low bounce K is way more versatile vs L or T grind. The standard K grind picks the ball better off a firm lie vs D but the latter has the edge on flop shots and full swings.

My short game is pretty strong and, like for a number of other "old farts", it makes up for loss of distance.

I'm of a similar handicap as you and in my experience the answer is, yes they're for you. My short game is probably the best part of my game. Lots of people live in fear of blading a wedge well past a green. They aren't any more of less forgiving than any other wedge on the market. Short game practice is something a lot of high handicappers overlook and that's the big one.

Your best short game will be with a lot of practice. That alone can move a handicap 5 strokes. You need good technique to get a ball out of a bunker. The correct fitted Vokey will be your best friend from a bunker. The advantage to a Vokey is the range of lofts and grinds to be fitted to your game. If there was only a Speith or JT models to pick from, then it would likely be a Vokey that is too hard for you to use.
If you can’t/won’t take lessons and practice, then any of the chipper wedges will do.

Maybe what you should have read is "Vokeys make you a low handicapper". If you have only been playing a year and are an 18, you are pretty good for a beginner and probably getting better. I think the combination of the right wedges and proper technique is critical to scoring and will do the most to lower your scores. Just buying Vokeys off the shelf will not get you your maximum performance unless you just luck into the right ones. Getting the lofts and grinds that best suit your needs and your swing will make getting up and down around the greens much easier.

Vokey wedges are for any and everyone.. And even better once you've been properly fit. Take for example Vokey and fitters at TPI can look at a few of your swings and divots and tell which wedge is for you. Dont listen to folks who have never seen you swing a club and let them dictate what clubs you play!

Not necessarily an accurate statement, but the key is having a properly fit wedge. A properly fit wedge (specifically length, lie angle, grind and bounce) will work with your swing, and an improperly fit wedge can actually work against you, making it more difficult.
