Having moved to Houston, TX, getting settled with a fitness routine was a priority. My wife and I have been runners where we would run several half marathons a year. While the training was great from a cardio standpoint, I also did a lot of stretching but I lacked overall strength. Since moving, joining a large gym by our house, I've really noticed a difference in my fitness.

I take fitness classes called GTX 4-5 times per week (if you know the gym, try them). They are a combination of cardio and weight training for 60 minutes. I've noticed my core and back being stronger which has translated to an increase in speed. I am hitting the ball farther than I can remember. With being stronger, I can swing easier and still have same yardage in my irons.

After every workout I stretch and sauna for recovery.

I've curbed the running a little to incorporate strength training.

It's a delicate dance and specific to one's body. The weight does not need to be heavy; body weight is amazing for a good workout.

  2. I hear ya. The first 15 minutes at the range are spent all on flexibility. What do they say? :"It's not the year but the miles".

I have not been able to play since Thanksgiving unfortunately due to busy work and family schedule but I am in the gym at 4:30am 5 days a week. I do light weight lifting and band exercises, I know it’s supposed to be for my “general health” but every thing is geared towards golf mobility and strengthening. Also get those 10K steps a day.
