What is AIM?
You have questions and Titleist Golf Ball R&D and our product management team has answers.
Q: What does AIM stand for and how did it come about?
A: AIM is an acronym that stands for Alignment Integrated Marking. AIM goes back to 2007 when we first started incorporating alignment features into the sidestamp. In talking to players on Tour who were already using alignment aids on their golf ball we began to formalise our research and test different marking options eventually arriving at the designs available today.
Q: What’s the main purpose of AIM?
AIM exists because it performs. In the fall of 2024, our R&D team developed a measuring device and we invited over 200 dedicated golfers to participate in a series of tests to determine if AIM alignment features provided an improvement in alignment precision. Using the device, each golfer was asked to line up a stock Pro V1 to a target and then use each alignment product to aim at the target from varying lengths. The goal was to align their ball to the center of the cup.
The entire test was focused on how well golfers aligned their putts before striking the ball. This approach was taken to eliminate errors caused by green surfaces, player strokes, putt speed, and other variables. The findings were undeniable. The results of the test showed that players using AIM are up to 35% more precise in aligning their putts.
Q: What makes AIM uniquely Titleist?
A: First, AIM is not decoration. AIM is engineered for performance. We also have a very high bar for consistency and excellence in everything we do, so to make ensure AIM meets our standards, we continue to invest in capital equipment, utilise the finest paints, and every Titleist golf ball featuring AIM must pass additional quality checks.
Q: What designs are currently available and how do you decide on them?
A: The designs and the colors are primarily born from market feedback, listening to what golfers are asking for and then taking those designs through our testing and validation process. Scroll down to meet the AIM lineup.
