Historic Scoring Highlights 4-Win Week for Titleist Golf Ball Players

Across the worldwide professional golf tours, it was a week highlighted by historic scoring, weekend charges and decisive performances, as the winning momentum continued for Titleist golf ball players. Four players  from Portugal to Florida, from Korea to South Dakota added victories to the Titleist count this week.

All told, Titleist golf ball players have now accumulated 177 wins around the world this season. That's more than six times more wins than the nearest competing brand with just 28 and more than all competing brands combined.

Congratulations to all of our winners! Let’s take a look at this past week’s Titleist tour highlights…

Tom Lewis (Pro V1x) produced the biggest 54-hole comeback of the European Tour season in winning the Portugal Masters for the second time in his career.

Lewis was one-over-par after his opening round of 72 on Thursday and sat nine shots behind the first round leader before closing with 63-61-66 to finish three shots clear of the field.

Lewis won this event in 2011 in just his third start as a professional. Most recently, the Englishman won a Challenge Tour event just two weeks ago.

Titleist players have now won 26 events on the 2018 European Tour season, more than six times the nearest competitor with 4.

Among the field of 120 of players that assembled at the Portugal Masters, 102 players trusted a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, more than four times the nearest competitor with 23 and more than all competitors combined.

59’s ARE WILD:

On Sunday, Oliver Fisher (Pro V1x) finished T7 at the Portugal Masters, but on Friday he made history, recording the first sub-60 round in European Tour history.

Fisher recorded 10 birdies and an eagle en route to his historic 12-under-par 59 on the Dom Pedro Victoria Course at the Victoria Clube de Golfe.

There had been 19 rounds of 60 since the formation of the tour in 1972.

When he arrived at the Portugal Masters, Oliver Fisher stopped by the Titleist European Tour Van with a specific ‘spin’ concern he had with his current Titleist golf ball model in the wind. Titleist golf ball representative Chloe Rogers went out on course with Fisher and had him test and compare a Pro V1x in blustery conditions and they immediately saw a spin reduction, while maintaining the ball flight he wanted.

“Oli came to us on Monday and we found a potential better fit for him regarding his flight concern into the wind,” said Rogers. “But he still wanted to test it on the course, which we did. On Wednesday, we checked spin rates on TrackMan and tested the Pro V1x against the Pro V1, and for him, the Pro V1x achieved the speed and flight Oli was seeking.”

“This Pro V1x feels really good and I am getting better distance out of it,” Fisher reported. “It is a lot better in the wind for me and I am achieving the distances I want.”

The day after Oliver Fisher recorded his historic 59 on the European Tour, Drew Nesbitt (Pro V1) concluded his own round of 59 in the Brazil Open, the first in the history of the PGA Tour Latinoamerica.

Nesbitt opened his round on Friday by holing a 100-yard second shot for eagle, then eagled the par-5 11th hole (his second hole of the round) to go four-under after two holes. He played only eight holes before play was suspended by darkness. On Saturday morning, he added a hole-in-one from 159 yards.

Denny McCarthy (Pro V1) captured the season-ending Web.com Tour Championship, and in the process earned the top position in the Finals 25, securing fully-exempt status for the 2018-19 PGA TOUR season.

McCarthy posted four back nine birdies to win his first career Web.com Tour crown by four shots.

The win was the 20th for Titleist players on the 2018 Web.com Tour, more than six times the nearest competitor with 3.

Of the 50 players who earned their cards for the 2018-2019 PGA TOUR season through the Web.com Tour money list and Finals Series, an overwhelming 84% (42 of the 50 graduating players) will be relying on a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, compared to just 8% (4 players) for the nearest competitor.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Web.com Tour Championship with 79% of the field (98 players in the field of 124) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 8% (10 players).
