Joaquin Niemann Goes Wire-to-Wire at Riviera to Lead Titleist to a Five-Win-Week

PGA TOUR | Genesis Invitational

Joaquin Niemann became the tournament’s first wire-to-wire winner since 1969 — and the first wire-to-wire winner at Riviera since the 1983 PGA Championship — trusting his Pro V1x golf ball to a two-shot victory and his second TOUR victory Sunday in Los Angeles.

  • The 23-year-old from Chile, the youngest-ever winner of the Genesis Invitational, opened the week with consecutive 63’s on his way to setting the event’s 36-hole (126) and 54-hole (194) scoring records.
  • For the week, Niemann led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (+1.77 per round), with an average proximity to hole from the fairway of 22 feet, 11 inches (best in the field by more than 3 feet). He was also second in SG: Around the Green (+1.26 per round).
  • Over the four days, his Pro V1x golf ball found the hole for 24 birdies or better (3 eagles), the most by a winner at Riviera since 1988.
  • With the win, he jumped to 20th in the World Ranking.

NIEMANN ON HIS PRO V1x PERFORMANCE

  • “I mean, it’s simple. For me, Titleist Pro V1x is the best ball out there. It just fits my game perfectly. I know that with this ball, I can hit any trajectory that I want, and I love to move the ball a lot, especially when it is windy. I mean, just so much confidence in this ball.”

HOW NIEMANN MARKS HIS PRO V1x

  • “I normally use the number one for Thursdays, number two for Fridays, number three for Saturdays, and number four for Sundays. Those are my four favorite numbers and I just do a line on it (over the sidestamp) so I can align it with my putter. Yeah, it's pretty simple, and always blue (marker). I like the blue.”

FIVE IN A ROW FOR TITLEIST GOLF BALLS

ANOTHER BIG WEEK FOR ROOKIE CAMERON YOUNG

  • PGA TOUR rookie and Titleist Brand Ambassador Cameron Young, making just his 12th-ever start on TOUR, earned his second T2 finish of the season.
  • Young’s second-round 62 – a nine-birdie, no-bogey effort – was the lowest of the week at Riviera.
  • Playing a Pro V1 Left Dot golf ball, TSi3 9.0° driver and full bag of Titleist equipment, Young, 24, finished the week second in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (+5.204), fifth in SG: Tee to Green (+8.643) and fourth in SG: Putting (+5.92). He was second in Scrambling at 82.61%.

YOUNG AMONG TOUR’S BEST DRIVERS

  • Young’s driving performance at Riviera moved him to second in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (+.812) for the season.
  • Said Young on his TSi3 9.0° driver: “I’ve definitely picked up a mile per hour or two. It spins a little bit less for me and it just keeps the misses straighter. It doesn’t curve as much. I think it’s more rewarding for me when I hit one how I mean to, the shapes come out more how I mean, and it’s just more rewarding in terms of it being a little hotter and just going a little farther.”

KORN FERRY TOUR | LECOM Suncoast Classic

Playing a Pro V1x golf ball and full bag of Titleist equipment, Titleist Brand Ambassador Byeong Hun An claimed his first worldwide win since 2015 while leading a 1-through-5 finish for Titleist golf ball players in Florida.

  • An, 30, topped a packed leaderboard, closing in 2-under 69 for a one-shot victory over Seonghyeon Kim (Pro V1 Left Dot), Scott Harrington (Pro V1x), Ben Griffin (Pro V1) and M.J. Daffue (Pro V1x).
  • “I hit great shots into the par 5s the first three days, I was able to hit greens under regulation. I set up easy birdies,” said An, who posted four rounds in the 60’s (65-66-67-69). “The first three days I had a lot of two-putts for birdies so I think that makes golf a lot easier when you hit the green in two and make a two-putt birdie. So I think my long irons was great this week and it’s been great for the last couple weeks, so I kind of had confidence, so that’s why I went for almost every green out there.”
