Tony Finau Clinches His Second Career Victory After All-Titleist Playoff in the Big Apple

PGA TOUR | The Northern Trust

Pro V1 loyalist Tony Finau captured his second-career PGA TOUR victory in a Monday finish at Liberty National, carding a final-nine 30 to force a playoff before winning on the first hole of sudden death.

  • Finau’s final-round 6-under 65 was the best round of the day, highlighted by a birdie-eagle-birdie stretch from Nos. 12-14. Finau, who played his final seven holes in 5 under, finished the week second in both Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (+10.8) and Greens in Regulation (81%).
  • In the playoff, Finau made par to top Titleist Brand Ambassador Cameron Smith, who followed his course-record and personal-best 60 in Round 3 with a Sunday 67 that included birdies on 16 and 17.
  • With the win, Finau moved to the top of the FedExCup Standings heading into this week’s second playoff event, the BMW Championship, while Smith moved up to third.

FINAU ON HIS PRO V1

  • Tony Finau’s win marked the 34th win for Titleist golf ball players this season on the PGA TOUR – more than six times the nearest competitor – and the fourth-consecutive win for Pro V1 and Pro V1x players on TOUR.
  • Said Finau: “I moved from a different golf ball a few years ago and the first thing I noticed was when I first hit some chip shots with the Pro V1, how much more feel I had not only on the chip shots, but also when I was putting, so I think the Pro V1 is the best around the greens.
  • “It’s so stable through the wind, and that’s where I’ve really shined. I feel like I’ve played a lot of my best golf when the wind blows and it’s a big part to the golf ball. It’s very stable – cross winds, downwind, into the wind. I seem to get proper numbers with it. So I just love the stability of the golf ball.”

WINNER PLAYS VOKEY

The winner of the Northern Trust gamed a Vokey Design SM8 WedgeWorks 60T wedge with a Nippon NS Pro Modus3 125 shaft.

A MAJOR FOR NEW T-SERIES IRONS

  • The Women’s Open champion gamed a set of NEW Titleist T-Series T100 irons, hitting 79% of greens in regulation (57 of 72) while missing only four greens over the weekend at Carnoustie.
  • She got her first look at the new models in early July at the LPGA’s Volunteers of America Classic, where she worked with Titleist fitter Scott Kraul to test the NEW T100’s versus the prior generation models (she had switched to the prior gen T100’s from a competitive model two months earlier) with her same UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 shafts.
  • During testing, the Women’s Open champ was seeing slightly higher launch with a steeper land angle, which especially improved performance with her 5- and 6-irons.
  • She also loved the feel of the NEW T100’s, commenting on how easy they went through the ground.
  • Due to rain delays, she was not able to get a practice round in with the NEW T100’s at the Volunteers of America Classic, but made the switch immediately in her next start at the Amundi Evian Championship.

CHAMPION MAKES CHANGE TO TSi3 DRIVER

  • The Women’s Open champion put a Titleist TSi3 driver in play this week for the first time.
  • Working on site at Carnoustie with Titleist fitter Anthony Williams, she moved from her previous TSi2 10.0° (HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 60) model to a TSi3 10.0° with a Ventus Red 6 S shaft at 45.5 inches (B•4 SureFit hosel, T2 SureFit CG).
  • This setup delivered faster ball speed with a more consistent flight, while allowing her to control trajectory and comfortably hit a variety of shots.

THREE VOKEY WEDGES FOR THE CHAMP

  • The Women’s Open champ played three Vokey Design SM8 wedges – SM8 50.12F, 54.10S and 58.08M – that she was fit for by Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill during a visit to the Titleist Performance Institute earlier this year.
  • “She came out to Oceanside and we were able to dial in her setup. She left with a better understanding of what worked for her and why,” Dill said.

EUROPEAN TOUR | D+D Real Czech Masters

Johannes Veerman trusted a Pro V1 golf ball to his first European Tour title, closing with weekend 4-under 68’s to win by two shots.

  • The victory came in Veerman’s 59th start on the European Tour, besting his previous top finish of solo third at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in July.
  • The former Texas A&M standout also finished T8 at this summer’s abrdn Scottish Open, which earned him a spot in the following week’s Open Championship at Royal St. George’s (where he made the cut, finishing T46).

KORN FERRY TOUR | Albertsons Boise Open

Greyson Sigg (Pro V1) claimed his second victory of the season, posting consecutive 6-under 65’s over the weekend for a one-shot victory in the opening event of the Korn Ferry Tour finals.

  • Sigg has already secured his PGA TOUR card for next season as part of the KFT’s top-25 points earners.

FORME TOUR | Forme Open at TPC River's Bend

Corey Shaun trusted a Pro V1 golf ball to his first victory on the Forme Tour.

  • The former UCLA golfer followed a 10-under 62 in Round 2 with weekend 67’s, rolling his Pro V1 from 12 feet for birdie on the 17th hole Sunday to win by one shot.
  • Shaun led a 1-through-14 finish for Titleist golf ball players.

PGA TOUR CANADA | Osprey Valley Open

Playing a Pro V1 golf ball, the winner of the Osprey Valley Open became the first amateur golfer since 2003 to win on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada, shooting four rounds of 66 or better to win by five strokes.

  • Another amateur – playing a Pro V1x golf ball, TSi3 driver, 620 CB irons and Vokey Design SM8 wedges among his Titleist equipment – finished solo second.

SUNSHINE TOUR | SunBet Challenge

Titleist Brand Ambassador Estiaan Conradie claimed his first Sunshine Tour victory, closing with a 70 to finish at 10-under par 206, three strokes clear of fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Malcolm Mitchell.
