Bud had a storied junior, college and amateur career. He was a three-time All-American at Alabama and went 3-0-1 for the victorious 2009 United States Walker Cup team.

At the Memorial, Steve made his second-career PGA Tour hole-in-one on the 186-yard par-3 8th hole using his AP2 6-iron.
