  1. I was demo-ing the D2 driver and the shaft with the best characteristics seemed to be the rip60.  They only had stiff flex to hit.  My swing speed with the driver was right at 100.  Launch angle was good, but spin was around 4000.  Any recommendations?

    George,

As far as flex goes, you could be a stiff or a regular, depending upon your tempo, but you I would say you are leaning more towards a stiff shaft at 100.  4000 is a lot of spin, but the RIP should bring that down, unless you saw that spin with that shaft.  Were you hitting the center of the face when you got those numbers by chance?  If you felt some may have been low on or off center, then you seeing 4000 spin would make better sense.  Either way, you need to reduce the spin closer to 2500, so look at lower torque shafts or strong  lofting your 910.

My ball speed is right at 140 with a launch angle of about 11.  d2 9.5 rip60 stiff

What would be the optimal launch angle and spin rate for this driver?

    George,

If we can get you somewhere in between 13-15 degrees in launch and 2200-2500 in spin you would be in great shape.  Try moving your SureFit setting to a higher lofted setting.

  5. Cameron,

I changed my swingplane and have my launch angle to approx. 14*.  I seem to be right in between needing a regular and stiff shaft.(firm flex?)

Of all the shafts available for the 910 D2 driver, which would be considered the strongest in a regular flex and the weakest in a stiff flex?

    Thanks,

    George

    George,

There are a bunch of shaft manufacturers that will have shafts that solve this problem.  Something that may help solve this issue would be a heavier weighted shaft in a weaker flex or a lighter weighted shaft in a stiffer flex.  You will want to keep in mind the other characteristics that the shafts have, such as flex point and torque.  Out of our stock shafts, the Aldila RIP 60g regular flex would be a stronger regular flex, and the Titleist Diamana ilima 61g stiff would be a weaker stiff flex.

  7. Boy, this is an interesting discussion...weaker or stronger flex.....not to mention weights all making this large of an impact.  I have not found at any location in Ohio or my region a place that gives me the "total" ability to evaluate all these options.   My club hasa few options but no launch monitor etc....

As a 4 handicap that working to get back to a scratch do I really need to go this far to evaluate these options in your opinion since I am already a stronger player? also....if yes then secondly, where would be the best place to go to truly get a chance to have someone (that knows what they are doing) to evaluate all the available options?

    Thanks!

    Chris,

I believe we just spoke on the phone.  I know this link below is about ball fitting, but it showcases Larry Drehs, the Fitter that we spoke about.  He is over at Hyde Park in Cincinnati and is one of our more prominent Fitters.

  10. Cameron,

I tried the RIP A 60 Stiff.....it was a little too stiff and lowered my launch to around 10-11.  I think my swing is a little too slow for this shaft.  The folks in the PGA store suggested I look into the Graphite Design AD DI6(RS) in a regular/stiff flex.  What do you think?...and what would be the upcharge?

    Thanks,

    George,

That is a great shaft which many players have had success with, but it does carry an up-charge.  This shaft should help to increase your ball flight as well, while keeping your spin from increasing too much.

  12. Thanks Cameron,

    How much is the upcharge?

    George,

I won't be able to quote any prices for those shaft up-cahrges.  If you contact any authorized Titleist retailer, they will be able to give you an accurate MSRP.

  14. Cameron,

Being an addict to golf in only my 3 yrs of playing I have become a 13 handicap on my home course which is tough.I am always looking for an edge and play with all titleist equipment and use the D2 driver.I hit my pitching 135 and 5 iron 180-190. When I just began golf I could hit my driver 260-300 with a stock ftiQ. Now I have put on 1,300 matrix ozik TP shafts which I feel have great control but on a big hit am only getting it out to 250.I use the V1x an am 6'3 and good shape. I dont feel a kick off the head when I hit it well.My swing speed is around 102.Do you think I have the wrong shaft? What do you reccomend if you think I need to change and I only want the best shaft.

    David
