i was hitting some new irons today and really like the 712 AP2 irons but the shafts i hit didnt fit my swing speed my specs where with a 7 iron i was generating 133-135 ball speed with both the ap2 and the mbs my results were as followed AP2 launch angle=22-23* 175-178 carry distance with a dynamic gold s300 mbs launch angle=18-19* 185-190 carry distance with the same shaft what im looking at getting is the AP2 with a KBS c-taper shaft x-stiff because of my swing speed and was wondering if that combination would get me down to a bit lower launch and if that combination would produce a good launch for my ball speed?

LOLZZZ!!!!  my name is Ben K and I also tried the 712 AP irons at golf galaxy.  the simulator was way off for i hit around 150 yrds. with a 6 iron, and it showed 95 yrds.  Wierd conicedence!

hey brother your experience isn't very uncommon its mostly because the camera's had a hard time tacking the ball. that's the problem with a lot of big commercial fitters like golfsmith and golf galaxy and such. im not knocking there abilities to fit just letting you know they may not up keep the simulator as needed or i just may simply be getting older. that's why a lot of fitters like Ryan have an indoor outdoor set up were they have the sensors but also have the ability to watch the ball flight.

I did this drill with some 8 irons and 7 irons. I found with stiff and x stiff my launch angle was 13.5* and ball speed about 100 (I had better average distance with the stiff and my shot pattern with x was all over the place). With a DG R300 Sensicore (on my DCIs), the launch angle was 19 deg and ball speed was 120.

The big however back then was the actual performance. I was hitting my 8 iron (which had a DG x flex) about 3 yards farther than my 7 iron (KT-M stiff). The DCI 981 7 iron was hitting 10 yards farther than the Eye 2.

After reshafting the Eye 2's to TT Lite XL r flex, the 7 irons (Eye 2 and DCI) were about 2 yards apart (mainly because the Eye 2 has more loft ) and I started hitting super consistent with the Eye 2. The AP2 does have 1* less bounce and .010 more offset. My attempt at explaining why the MB has a lower launch angle is you are delofting the club slightly due to the increased bounce and less offset.

thanks Lou G i played the 710 mb last year but want a club a little more forgiving due to the cooler weather i some times play in in Michigan i am thinking that the KBS c-taper will help with the launch of the AP2 clubs along witht he x-flex shafts to get me down to where it is manageable. i do need the x-flex shafts in my irons due to my swing speed and tempo i was way deep on the fitting scale for the x-stiff shafts. i hit the KBS c-taper stiff flex shaft today and it dropped my launch to a 20* instead of the 22* i was hitting and gained some yardage also i was very consistant with a yardage of 185-187 and only 7 yards of dispersion over the span of 30-35 balls with the 7 iron the fitter said the x-flex would help me with dispersion i love the irons AP2 with kbs c-taper x-stiff shafts 1* flat

I did have a lower ball flight on the 8 iron with DG X but got the same yardage as a regular shaft on the field because of the roll; however, my swing speed is way too low for x flex and on the borderline for stiff and regular. I like a higher ball flight on the irons because they stick the greens better. I think the X will get you down to 19* launch angle. That seems to be a good one for irons.

thanks Lou G i was thinking the same my friend that fit me yesterday said the x-stiff shaft should drop me down to a 20* with the shaft choice i chose and i can always tweak my lofts to get consistant distance and launch conditions on the irons i get. just trying to take my game to the next level i finished this past Michigan golf season with the lowest rounds of my life and my best handicap ive ever hadf of a + 2.1

I hope all this testing, hitting, experimenting  you guys are doing is outdoors off of real grass, using a valid launch monitor and hitting Pro V1 or X golf balls.  That is really the only true way to determine lanuch and spin.
And when I say valid launch monitor I mean one that cannot be manipulated with wind direction, altitude.... because if its not and you are hitting indoors then......
