Hey guys, i just got a d3 and it feels a little uncomfortable.  The length is more than an inch longer than the driver i was using!  Im just curious, have any of you shortened the shaft, or is adjusting the settings going to make it feel more comfortable to me?

any thoughts would be taken gladly!

    Eric,

It depends on what the uncomfortable feeling is.  If the ball flight seems to be too low and doesn't really get off the ground, consider moving to a higher lofted setting for more launch/spin.  I would also look at the shaft you have in that club.  The torque may be a little to low and tip stiff, which can have a large effect on how the club feels to a player.  If this is the case, I would consult a certified Titleist Fitter in you area to help you find a shaft that feels good, and then adjust the SureFit setting to help fine tune the launch and spin.

The thing that feels uncomfortable maybe is the lie angle, i feel like i have to toe of the driver pointing up to high, like maybe its a little long? or can adjusting the setting help with that feeling?

  4. Hi Eric, you don't mention what sort of shot shape you have with the D3 and are you hitting consistently on centre?

If you are and you have the club at a1 you could try B1 but it will change the shot trajectory. Check the matrixon the leaflet in the pouch with the wrench.

If you are not on centre consistently you need the length adjusting. If you need to say take an inch off I would definitely get this done via a certified titleist fitter as the club really need to go back to Titleist to be reweighted properly

    regards, Chris

Chris thanks, i actually havent got to hit it yet, im stuck here in PA winter!

My concern is it just feels so long. I always choked up a little in the past, Im 6 ft tall so its not that im below average height.  I like the way it feels otherwise the length.  You know how it is with a new club, takes some getting used to... but you hear all these people say clubs "standard weight" is long for most ppl.  Also im not sure what is meant when someone talks about swing weight of the club, is i took a half inch of the butt of the club, its loses weight yes, but what happens as far as to the club?

forgive me, just super nervous about my new purchase!

#1 - get fitted outdoors by a good fitter using a launch monitor and Pro V1 golf balls. Only way to do it!

#2 - length of shaft is second step in the driver fitting process. A good fitter will have lengths ranging from at least 44" - 46" for you to hit.  The proper length shaft is the one you hit CONSISTENTLY  on center.

#3  -  Titleist research from 1994 tells us that +3" length in the shaft will only produce about a 5 yard increase in distance for most players.  However, a 1" off center hit can cause as much as a 25-40 yard loss of distance ( less ball speed, higher spin, lower launch....)

My experience from 25 years of fitting has been that the vast majority of amateurs have trouble hitting even a standard length 45" long shaft CONSISTENTLY on center. Most do much better at less than 45".  BUT see #1 above to know for sure.

The hosel settings are for direction and trajectory purposes - they will not affect feel. that is up to the player.  Mu hunch is that the bad feelings you are getting are coming from the extra length.  I have found over the years in training club fitters that only the best ones will address the length of shaft in the fitting process. Most "clerks"  or poor fitters simply try to put players in longer shafts because that is what they want to sell out of their stock inventory or they do not have the shaft length options to fit with. Again see #1 above.
