The custom club guys always talk about puring the shaft for consistency. Most fitters I've worked with don't offer the service. Does Titleist have any quality control checks to minimize the need? How would shaft puring work with adjustable clubs where the head rotates relative to the shaft? The custom club guys generally point out that mass merchandise may be out of whack from assembly.

    Hi Don,

The Titleist Golf Club R&D group has conducted testing with tour and better players to compare performance between shafts that have been PURE'd and shafts that have not.  We have never been able to see or measure any performance difference whatsoever.  Therefore, we do not feel the PURE process adds any performance improvement.

Any research and results on the spining and FLO'ing that is talked about from time to time?

I'm always curios who these so called "custom club guys" are? The previous answer from Titleist is from shaft engineers and the best and most honest guys in the golf business. Those "custom club guys" are usually concerned w one thing --- getting in your pocket trying to use some phony process such as puring or spinning or .... If it would have a significant affect on ball flight then Titleist would have a way to fit it and be able to justify their process. Steve ball

The fitters that carry heads from various small vendors also tend to recommend the SST Pure.  I agreed with Tom W. that fitting for a lesser ability golfer made sense.  Unfortunately, these niche manufactures only carry about 1/6 or less of their products in left hand, so I couldn't find anything to open my checkbook for.  Fortunately, Titleist elected to extend products to the aspiring but slower swing speed golfers about that time, and the Wisconsin Advanced Fitter is only 20 minutes away.  I had never thought of Titleist as option.  Very happy with a bagful now.  And I didn't pay more for Titleist over 'custom'.

Happy to hear Titleist is comfortable not recommending pureing.  On some blogs some of the shaft gear heads consider it blasphemy to walk on the course with shafts in the wrong orientation.
