Is it a good idea for a beginner to get fitted.  A couple of guys I golf with have been having this debate for some time now.  We have a fella who just picked up golf last year and is wanting to buy clubs.  I'm under of the mindset that if you have the clubs fitted and made for you, you can't blame it on the clubs, right!  LOL...  Another guys thinks it's not a good idea until you can hit the ball consistently.  Well if you have the wrong clubs how can you hit it consistently?  The fella in question can hit the ball pretty solid and occasionally hits it fat.  What are you guys' thoughts on this?

    Thanks,

    Mike

In my point of view, unless the person in question is not certain about continuing to play - get fit. Why make the game more difficult.

Get fit for sure. If your friend is going to buy a good set of clubs, most likely the place he's going to buy them from will fit him for free. Only difference is waiting for the clubs to get delivered instead of taking them off the rack.

It's always best to get fitted for clubs, no matter if you're a beginner or a pro. Yeah, a pro has a more consistent swing compared to a beginner, but, even if their clubs aren't fit for them properly, they won't be able to play their best golf. For example, since your friend's a beginner, I'm guessing that he tends to either slice or push the ball really bad. If his clubs are too flat, his shots/mis-hits could be a lot worse than they would be with properly fitted clubs. Shaft flex/characteristics, head design, grip size...there's a lot that goes in to a fitting. Have your friend get a hold of his local Titleist rep to get fitted for his new clubs.

That's golf's classic chicken and the egg thing.

If you don't know how to swing then how can you be fit, if you haven't been fit how can you learn how to swing?
