    Hello all-

Years ago I played nothing but Titleist.  Over the years I've kinda transitioned away from it which I've found to be more of a mistake than helping.  I thought I was missing out on some of the technologies (which I was) that some of the "other" companies were broadcasting.

That being said, I've already switched the driver back to 913 D2 and my next step is irons.  I'm looking very closely at the 712/AP2's but see the new style for 2014 that is pulling on my collar.

Currently I am a 4.2 hcp and using R7 TP's with 1* upright.  Being a short guy (5'10"), I don't understand why I'd be upright and all my misses are left, which I'm told is based on that 1*.  I had played with Jim McGovern last week (PGA and ghost writer for Feherty) and he seemed to notice this.

All being said, I'd like to hear feedback on the 1* and the comment that was made to me.  Outside of that, I'd like to hear of (if anyone has had the opportunity) the differences between the current AP2 and the new model before I start spending time with fittings and purchases.

Looking soooooo forward to getting back to ALL TITLEIST and hopefully my scratch game.

Thanks for your time and so happy to be here, again.

Height is not the only variable, arm length is another you can't control.  Then there is your setup.  Lie can be quickly checked.

Don't know if you were fitted for the current irons, but they appear to be 3-5 years old.  Even Titleist clubs should be rechecked more often than that.  Things happen.  God forbid you get older.  Frequent play can change the setting as well.

If you get fit (...and you should and preferably outside), then you might as well get fit for the 2014's.  You can reliably count on 2 years of getting a replacment of the same model.  There isn't much discounting of Titleist equipment, unlike your current set, when a new model comes out.  Nor is there a great deal of inventory available once the new model is launched.  You might save $100 buying a set off the rack, but less than 10% of golfers fit perfectly to a standard set.

And that's if the 2014s weren't improved from the 2012. Go for it!  J

Thanks Don, you're a wealth of great information.

All will come to a head sooner than later.

I've managed to get myself invited to the Team Titleist Invitational at Del Mar in December. I'm curious if they will have a fitting area set up.  Wish I knew, I'd wait until then to go through the motions. But looks like I'll need to take care of that sooner.  Can't show up with "non-titleist" in tow.

    Again, appreciate the feedback.
