I just hit the AP2 714 with my teaching pro, and tested 6 different shafts. I am stunned! I have played the Titleist line irons for the last 30 years, and while incremental improvements happen with every release; the 714 line is a quantum leap. I'm also a little bit stunned at the synergy of the Aerotech steelfiber 95 and the new 714 head. Having a set of older AP2's with Nippon NS 100 S in them, I was expecting to go into the session and come out with something in the Nippon line. When the steelfiber shaft went into the head, it was magic. The flight was perfect. High launch, flattening out down range; as opposed to the high launch, straight down of the Nippon NS 100, I picked up half a club in distance. What was really staggering was the action of the new 714 head out of the rough. Flew as well as a perfect lie. Switched back and forth between mine and the new AP2 and saw much better performance with the new head/shaft combo. What was really surprising is right off the fitting cart, hit half a dozen balls and then, when we had them dialed in; he (my teacher, a big Titleist guy) started calling shots. "hit a high draw".... Boom......"hit a cut off the tree to the flag... Boom. These clubs and especially head shaft combination of AP2 714 and Aerotech steelfiber 95 are the real deal. Try them Team Titleist and let me know what you think!
