    Hi there,

thinking of getting a set of new 714 ap irons for my 13 year old son, either the ap1 or ap2. He is about 5 feet tall and have 14 in hcp. At the moment he is using the ladies version of the 910D2 driver and 913H hybrid. First I thought that the ladies version of the ap1 could be a good fit since he needs shorter clubs with a light weight shaft. But, if I order the mens version with the standard graphite shaft cut an inch (or 3/4") shorter and perhaps soft step the shaft would I get a similar swing weight as the ladies version (but with a slightly heavier shaft)? Or is it possible to order the ap2 and inch shorter with soft stepped graphite shaft and also get a swing weight similar to the ladies version of the apt.

    Best,

    Mikael

I would suggest going and getting a proper fitting by a Titleist certified fitter.  That way you know the equipment he has is correct.  Plus he will be growing in the coming years and the fitter can possibly account for that.

Hi Mikael,  As T. Tiger suggested, we would recommended getting your son fit for the clubs.  We have several fitting accounts around the country that have a "short" matrix of shafts for the smaller player.  Give us a call at Team Titleist and we can direct you to one of these fitters.  1-888-TITLEIST.

    CATHI,

    I ORDERED a 714AP1 5 iron, and AP2 6iron thru PW. I specified a swingweight of D1.

I received irons today and on the spec sheet that came with the irons it says " single set SW @ std sw.

What does that mean in terms of the swingweight? is the AP1 5 iron different than the AP2 6-pw?

    Shafts are TT XP95

    Hi Cathi,

yes he will get fit. I guess the questions I wanted to ask, but perhaps got lost, were:

    1. Is it possible to order 714 ap2 with ladies shaft and ladies length. How do specify that?

    2. What would the swing weight of either a 714 ap1 or ap2 be if I ordered them with a standard mens graphite shaft but an inch shorter and soft stepped.

    Thanks,

    Mikael

Hi Mikael,  Yes, just place your order for the AP2 irons with ladies graphite at standard ladies length and a ladies grip exactly as you have stated. The swingweight will be C4 +/-1. which is fairly standard for ladies clubs. If you want it on the lighter or heavier side, you can specify the swingweight C3 or C5.
If you order a 714 AP2 or AP1 with Kurokage senior flex men's shafts at standard ladies length 36.5" on the 6 iron (1" short) and the ladies grip, the swingweight will come out to be about C5 +/-1, The biggest difference is that the overall weight will be heavier with the men's shaft.
