I've been looking for a new set of irons and was able to get on a monitor to see what my numbers are with the XP95 stiff . what does everyone think about my numbers?this was done at golfsmith with a srxn practice ball. I'm looking for optimal spin and launch ..a few days earlier my pro was able to get me some shafts to demo but didn't have a monitor so the purpose of the demo was to find a shaft that felt the best and launched good... the shafts i demoed where KBS tour, steel fiber 110, project X PXi, XP 95, NS PRO 850.. after the demo it was between the PXi and XP95.. i live in houston, texas and I'm about a 10-12 handicap. the irons i have now are titleist 735.cm... let me know what everyone thinks...

    average club head : 79mph

    average ball speed: 115mph

    average launch angle: 14.5

    average total spin: 5600rpm

    average decent angle: 41

    Matt,

You don't say what club you are hitting so I will assume it is a 6 iron.  First of all hitting practice balls from a mat indoors is not any way to make decisions. None of that is real golf -- hitting from grass outdoors,  using a real  golf ball ( Pro V…) is the only way to do this

so it is hard to say about your numbers, but these numbers are typical of what you might see indoors off of mats using a practice ball -- vey low spin for those speeds. You cannot trust the numbers in these indoor hitting situations.

this was with a 6 iron.. i went back today with a PRO V1 and my  ball speed jumped to 120 and spin jumped to about 5900-6000 rpm..

Matt - I just got fit for new irons last week, at Westfields Fitting Studio (Clifton, VA) (off a mat, premium balls, trackman, onto the driving range).  My numbers are similar to yours (6 iron average swing speed 81 mph, handicap index 12.5).  I hit both the 714 AP1s and AP2s, and many of the same shafts you hit (KBS Tour, XP95 stiff, steel fiber i95 stiff, NSPro 970).  I ended up ordering AP1s with steel fiber i95 regular flex shafts.  For me it came down to the XP95 stiff and i95 regular (which on the frequency machine turns out to actually be stiffer than the XP95 stiff flex).  Both were great, and my numbers and ball flight were almost identical with these two shafts -- I just liked the feel of the steel fiber i95s, and their uniqueness a little better.  Also for me, both the AP1s and AP2s were great on center of the club face contact, and I love the AP2 looks, but for slightly off center contact the  AP1s were quite a bit more forgiving.  If you have a chance, you may want to try the i95 shafts.  I can't wait for my new irons to arrive!

    Elmer
