Depends on where you go. Titleist Thursdays are free, but it would take several appointments to get a full bag fitting. A full bag fitting at Manchester Lane is $600.00.

would you say it is worth the extra cost?

Getting fit outdoors is always worth the effort as the minimum investment in you. Moving onto the professional fitting centers are the ultimate experience with the quality and experience of the fitters, the quality of the facility from turf conditions to bunker setup, and the shaft/head combinations available. Their job isn't done until you both agree this is the best option. It's up to you if the value is worth the price.

In between, golf course pro shops will have a fitting fee, but will normally reduce/forego with a purchase. Each sets their own price so you would need to ask ahead of time.

Unlike a full bag fitting at a retail location that may take 30 minutes, using an outdoor setting for irons/wedges, a qualified fitter will take at least a couple of hours and this can result in "swing degradation" towards the end. Not to mention without a full set of irons, it is hard to gap wedges/hybrids/fairways using only a 7 iron.

An idea - to help guard against fatigue, you could schedule this over 3 days or so
