I just ordered a couple of boxes of the Tour Soft to try. What are your thoughts on Tour Soft vs. ProV1 or ProV1x?

Totally different category of ball so I don't really compare them. If you were an NXT player from the past, the Tour Soft is in that category, actually the replacement for that ball. Material and manufacturing slightly different from the premium line of balls but still a very good ball, especially for someone on a tight budget. The ball is the one piece of equipment you use on every shot so find what you like, what works best for you.

It is a good golf ball. A lot of guys I know who have slower swings really like it's performance and that is why they use it versus the premium golf balls. Has a 346 dimple pattern which will generate a good deal of spin very similar to the Prov1x which has a 348 dimple pattern. You can go on this site and do a ball comparison with each of the balls. I have hit it and it just does not give ME the distance I am seeking and the performance I get from my Prov1. You know what they say about us old guys, we are set in our ways. Am approaching 77 and get still get that Prov1 to move out there. I would not worry to much about what others think or are playing. Ask yourself, how does it feel and perform? If the answer it great, then that is the ball you need in your bag. Happy golfer, happy LIFE. Hakuna matata.
  4. In reality you will know how they feel after a few holes certainly a full round
Find what you like then stick to that model so you know what too expect
Ask others for advice but you don't know there striking ability

Driving distance can be relatively close between all Titleist balls. The 2 most important characteristics of a ball to me are spin around the green and feel. That's why I prefer the AVX.

You find these spin more than a pro v1 or pro v1x

Derekb...if you are referring to the AVX, my experience is that the X spins the most off the driver and around the green, The ProV1 is in the middle and the AVX spins the least. Others may experience different results.

I find the AVX spins well but flies super high when I hit it

I still find the V1 or V1X the superior ball for my game

I see the same thing generally. One of the reasons I play V over X is I find the dispersion less with V. Less spin = less side spin as well ... for me anyway.

Prov1 has the highest spinning dimple pattern at 388 of all the premium balls. Prov1x and AVX are next at 348 dimple pattern. Less dimple pattern less spin, less flight. That is how the ball performs.

I don't think the "more dimples more spin" is exactly accurate. The ProV1X has less dimples but they are bigger and deeper and along with the extra inner layer, creates more spin. The AVX has less dimples than the ProV1 but the dimples are very shallow. Take a close look. Those shallow dimples are creating less resistance, thus the lowest spinning of the premier balls. Maybe I am wrong but I am pretty sure this is accurate.
  12. interested to try the AVX, been using prov1x for a while, just because i like the feel off the face, no other reason
