  1. I paid a visit to a local Golf Galaxy and hit the 712 MB's and CB's. Both felt great. Would you recommend a combo set? I did not like the "chunkiness" of the AP2's. I am also not sure if I should consider a shaft upgrade to something other than the S300. Any help would be appreciated. One more thing, should I order from Golf Galaxy or order from a cert. titleist dealer? Thanks in advance

That is a good setup. When choosing a club preference is still the number 1 factor. A lot here at TT have gone with MB short irons and CB long irons (which also is my dream setup). Golf Galaxy offers club fitting, you'll won't go wrong there. I think you mean "certified Titleist fitter"... if you have an option going to one, in my opinion it is better to go with the Titleist fitter. A lot will tell you that it is better to get fitted first (especially outdoors and on grass) when buying a new set of irons. Good luck and happy golfing. Carlo

The more aggressive pricing, it is best to purchase from a certified Titleist dealer found at Pro Shop.

During the process of getting fitted, I informed the Titleist fitter of my desire to purchase the CBs.  My desire was in part due to appearance at address as well as the appeal for true blades.  After analyzing my swing and ball striking capabilities, we both agreed that the AP2s were best.

While still forged, they are a little more forgiving then the CBs/MBs, and therefore my mishits wouldn't be as pronounced.  While I am not one to suggest that we as mid/high handicappers should refrain from certain clubs due to labels, I would recommend that you should work with a Titleist fitter and NOT a Golf Galaxy fitter.  You will obtain better feedback, attention, and guidance from someone employed with Titleist.

I completely agree, go with a Titleist fitter or at least a pro shop which employs a certified Titleist fitter.

If your looking for a shaft upgrade I would recommend the KBS tour stiff. Small upgrade for a great shaft that has a stiffer tip and will flight the ball a little lower. You can also get the KBS shaft in a couple different colors like white, black, etc. If you're not into the KBS you might look into the Project X. Otherwise the DG S300 is a good shaft if you don't want to upgrade.
  5. I do not like the AP2's at all from a visual standpoint. I am a natural high ball hitter, so a Muscle back is probably best for me even though I am not a great pure "striker" of the ball. I played with KBS tours before and felt they were harsh. ID like to demo the C-Tapers though. I just love the soft feel of the CB's and MB's

Understood.  I would really recommend going to see a Titleist fitter.  If that isn't an option, go to an authorized dealer and have them fit you - if they have the complete fitting kit.  Otherwise, go to your local driving range/pro shop/course and inquire about a Demo Day.

A good fitting will answer all of your questions, including the best shaft for you.

I have 2 reasons to use an Advance Fitter instead of a big box. It would be 3 if someone hadn't already mentioned you can negotiate a better package when it comes to any fees for fitting and/or net price.
    1. My experience this year was after getting fitted an AF center for a fairway late last year, I went to a big box to trade some clubs on a second fairway. They didn't have the newest 2012 shafts in stock, like the one on my first fairway.
    2. Get fitted outside. The screen simulations aren't the same as actual ball flight. Also doubtful the AF center will be using Maxfli range balls.

Tim, Carlos is right on the money as far as using the mb 5-pw and using Cb irons 3-4 irons.the one thing I would recommend is. Calling local courses to see when they are having there titleist demo days, the titleist rep will be there to get you set up from lie/ loft and he can direct you for the shaft you need.also look into project x shafts.good luck Gerard.

first off a titleist cert. fitter is always better. I am going to go see my Titleist fitter this weekend. this will be my second set of irons in as many years threw him. he got me right the first time i just want to go to the 712 line. as far as the MB,CB, AP2 thing. brother its what you feel most comfortable with. if you can hit a MB just fine get an MB. I learned and went from a 20 Hcp. to a 6 useing blades. i used AP2's for a year and went to an 8 so i went back to blades and got back to a 6. i hit the MB's just fine just i have more confidence with MB's its just a player choice. don't get hung up on the numbers. a good fitter dosent need a machine. anyways good luck i hope you get what makes you happy.

  10. Thanks guys. You are all very helpful. The nearest fitter is an hour away but they fitted me for my D3 driver last spring and I have never crushed the ball so far and straight. That experience was the best, and this fitter even had titleist balls on their outdoor range. It was really nice. i will probably make another appt and walk away with some MB's or a combo set

  11. ive been playing quite a bit this spring and am now down to an 8 HDCP. I have an appointment with a certified fitter in 2 weeks......ill report back as soon as the appointment is complete
