  1. I just recently received my 5-pw Ap1's and 50 gap and 56 sand sm4s. Although I love this combination I've noticed a gap of 20 yards between my 50 sm4 and pw. Should I get a 48 degree maybe or get an AP1 gap wedge to fill the distance?  Has anybody else seen a difference in these clubs?  I thought the vokey gap wedge at 50 degrees would be fine but I just can't max it out anymore than 110 yards.

    Any thoughts?

I have the same set up but took the PW out and added a Vokey 200-46.  It is a great club and feels a lot like the 50.  I do have a gap now with the 46 and the AP1 9.  The 9 is easier for me to choke down and three quarter swing when I need to hit it a little shorter then the PW was, don't know why.

if everything is standard your PW is 45..take your 50 and make it 2 degrees stronger, instead of buying a 48, that should lesson your gap...and if your need to..weaken your PW 1 or 2 as well.

Why not work your pitching wedge? If you choke down 1/2 inch, you can shave 10 yards. I played with a 47* PW and 55* SW for almost 3 years and got rather adept at working the PW. Almost along the same line as Stuart. You can also do a pitch with an 8 iron to cover the gap. You can also choke down by an inch with a full shot on a 9 iron or do a choked pitch with the 7 iron. I have the same wedge setup as you but SM3. I have a 50-08 bent to 51, 54-11 bent to 55, 58-04 and 62-07. I have AP1s 7-PW (I use an SQ2 5/26 and have a gap of 15 yards between it and the 7 iron). The reason I have the 50-08 bent to 51 is I want more bounce for long sand shots. I hit my AP1 PW 115 yards or so. My 50 gets 95-100 yards. I get about 85 with the 54, 70 with the 58 and 60 with the 62. I don't take full golf shots with the Vokeys unless it is absolutely necessary.
  5. Maybe u should try a 52 or 54 degree that could always help but u could also try the PW ap1 idk what best fits u

The 50-08 (mine is bent to 51) makes the longer pitch shots less work vs using a sand wedge and also allows the ball to bite on the green. It is also sort of a return to playing "old school" golf, given pitching wedges were 50* back then. 54 is a great wedge. The SM3 54-11 is probably one of the most versatile sand wedges around (I have mine bent to 55 mainly because of the comfort zone I have with a 55-12). The narrow sole allows for nipping the ball on a tight lie and there is enough bounce to get out of soft sand. 56 just doesn't do it for me. The SM3 58-04 is also a good wedge. The low bounce is a bit deceiving because the leading edge has a fairly high bounce. It plays like an old school sand wedge. I classify it as "nice to have" (you don't use it a lot but when you need it, it is there). The SM3 62-07 is another great wedge. It is good where you need a little more vs using a 64 x wedge and also works in a wider variety of conditions vs a 60-07. I would say most of my pitching and chipping are with the 50-08 and 62-07.
