  1. Good Evening,

I am brand new to the world of golf and am looking for some advice or help. I started playing golf about 8 months ago (28 yoa) prime sport was Track and field. Individuals mentioned that I should pick up Long Distance Driving, hit a golf ball far and straight. A buddy donated a driver to me which is 10 years old. Went to get tested at a golf store and avg drive was 350+,  60 percent fairway hits, with swing speed of 140+, ball speed at mid 4000, with a 13 loft. My driver is a 240cc, and was told my shaft looked like a noodle on video and my head was outdated. Local/major golf shops were of no help, stated they didn’t carry any equipment fit for me. Would like help, see if I can save money and buy a good driver to try to compete at local, regional & world championships, problem is I don’t know much about equipment and heard Titleist was the best out there. Any Recommendations would be great. Thank you, and feel free to ask me question so that I may answer them and get the best feedback.

I don't think the main golf equipment manufacturers are into the long drive competitions.

These guys make the biggest shaft in LDA and its probably the most affordable, they are long drive competitors and would probably be the best bet for getting you some help.

Get a 6 or 7 degree head a shaft fit for your swing speed and go out there and make some money.

There are long drive competitions all the time so why assume this guy can't do it?

If you could post some videos here or on youtube and send us the links it would be cool to watch your progress.

    Good Luck

    Good evening Thomas.

So the numbers you gave didn't quite match up. there are only a hand full of people in the world that have that kind of club head speed so im guessing thats actually your ball speed. the 4000 number is your ball's RPM (how much spin is on the ball) you want that number just alittle lower like in the 33 3400 range. and the 13 is probably your launch angle. If your serious about only doing long drive look for the diablo driver its made by a differnt company. if you still want to use a Titleist there is nothing wrong with that. if you can bomb a ball you can bomb a ball with any driver. now then a driver and shaft. you should realy get fitted by a real fitter.

dont go to any of the chain golf stores if your seriously bombing the ball they wont have a shaft there for you. Ask Cathy the Titleist  rep were the nearest fitter to your location is and if your serious she can help. If you just want some recomendations i would say order a 910 D3 with a fujikara Rombax 7z08 X-stiff at 47 inches. thats about the most you'll get from Titleist as far as stiffness and low torque.

I don't understand where the mathematics question is in this statement (nor the ball speed at "mid 4000", unless you are a super human being to be able to make a golf ball travel at 4000 mph, in which case it wouldn't matter what drive you had as you would win by default).

If you are interesting in long drive competitions, then you should look into the current list of champions and head/shaft combinations they used.

Also, schedule fittings with shaft manufacturers.
