    For those of you that don't feel comfortable with a 35.75"  Vokey wedge, try this (and it is a match made in heaven for Titleist iron sets). I personally didn't like a 48-06 and I love the 50-08 to death.

    I bent a 50-08 1* strong and shortened the shaft to 35.25" (the swingweight comes out the same as a 48-06).  At 49* loft it is the perfect companion to an AP1 PW (if you use an AP2 or any of the blades, try leaving the loft stock or bending to 51*).   I also bent the lie angle 1/2* upright to 64.5*.   I get a lot cleaner hit vs the stock length of 35.5" and it also is great for long bunker shots.

    The amount of distance control is tremendous and I'm nailing pitch shots from 50 yards to within a foot or two and within inches from 20 yards and less. Also hitting long bunker shots in soft sand.  This modified 50-08 works very well for chipping.

  3. I just bought a Vokey 50-08 that must be 30 years old. the chrome is worn off on the sole, and off the sweet spot on the face. the leading edge is pristine and sharp....the club cost me $20 (I am not lying), at "Play it again sports" in Greensboro, NC....Just had it regripped for $8 at Dicks.  That reminds me....I need to get a real Titleist grip for that club... The sales pro at Dick's was grinning ear to ear to see the club, and hear the story...I think it made his day. And, I really needed a gap wedge. the PW if have is 44-09 and the SW is 54-13.5 (neither is Titleist -- sorry), so a 50-08 is perfect. Glad to have the old girl in the mix. I won't part with it.

    Those guys at the store did not know what they had. I can't wait to take it to the range. WOOHOO!!.

    I'm so psyched, that I just started googling "Vokey 50-08" and found this blog.

    Cheers,

    @Dave:

    I've had my 50-08 since last year.  It started out with a used SM2 50-08 that I bent to 51 (purpose was long bunker shots).  I played a couple rounds of golf with it and went back to GG and traded it for a Spin Milled c-c 50-08.  That has become my primary pitching weapon because it is much less effort vs using a sand wedge.   I used it as a PW with my Eye 2s.   My last round of golf I tried to do a 3 wedge setup and (although I did well with my 54-14) realized I could have used a gap wedge on the very last approach shot (it would have rolled to one putt range).  I did my modification mentioned and the accuracy got even better, along with hitting better long bunker shots.

    I tried a 48-06 about a year ago and really struggled with it (it was also bent to 49).  Stopped the ball OK but main problem was it was too long for my comfort. Now I am used to a 35.75 PW (the AP1) but at the time, I was playing 35 1/4" PW (Eye 2 and DCI 981).

    The 50-08 is also a bit of a return to old school golf because pitching wedges were 50* back in the golden days of Caddyshack (1972).

    In regards to "Play It Again Sports", the best find I had there was 2006.  I picked up a Puma 29 deg metal 9 wood with a really small head for $7.50.  I actually hit the green with it from slightly inside the 200 marker on several occasions and it was my go to club between 170-200 yards and off tight fairway lies.  Still kicking myself for getting rid of it (was overcome by G10 hybrid hype because I had a 28* that hit just as well).

    Have fun with that wedge.  Probably one of Titleist's "hidden gems"
