How are tour pro's irons different from those we buy at golf/club shops?

  1. I continue to be amazed with the distance the tour pros hit their irons.  Nuking 8 irons 175 yards, 6 irons 200 yards, etc.  I can hit 300 yard drives on non-tour fairways, yet I struggle to hit an 8 iron over 165, and my 6 iron absolute max is 180.  I can swing it pretty hard, but when comparing their swings, tempo, lag, etc, it doesnt seem they are generating that fast of a swing speed, and doesnt seem much greater than my own.

Are their balls different from ours?  Are their iron heads somehow different?  Shafts different?   I'm told that "our" clubs are very different than theirs, but in what ways?

firts and foremost the lofts are tweaked on theirs... I have mine 2 deg strong and still dont hit it that far... the other is mussle memory, the club speed at impact  is different than the normal guys... I have an average speed of 110 but they meaning the few big guys are around 120... ouch...

Of all the companies out there I would say the Titleist tour clubs and retail clubs are almost identical.  Yes they get clubs early before they come to retail for testing and validation but thats it.  Imagine you worked on your golf game 8 hours a day, how far do you think you would hit it?  Combine that with state of the art fitting and total workout plans and its easy to see why they hit it so far.
