There is no simple answer so the correct answer is maybe. How far you would hit the CB would be dependent on a few factors. The primary factors are your swing speed (club head), the shaft you are using, type of ball, and centerness of hits. The only way you can answer this question is if you go to a good club fitter who has a Flightscope or Trackman to measure the perfomrance variables that are unique to your swing. The ball spin rate that you generate with you swing will have a strong influence on how far you hit your ball.

I just recently picked up the 716 CBs (5-9). Thanks to my resident Golf Store, I spent a couple months trying a number of club setups.

I attended a Titleist demo day with an open mind, but with a desire to his the MBs and CBs. Due to my stature and HCI, the demo personnel was pushing the AP1s then the AP2s.

I tested the AP1s, AP2s, CBs, MB and T-MBs. I had very little, solid hit, distance differentials across all 5 club types (all 7-irons? all on the same shaft) When you consider that the lofts of these clubs differ, I actually hit the weaker lofted CBs farther, per degree of loft, that is.

The AP1s didn't feel right, they felt heavy.

The mis-hits were the telling factor. My mis-hits are generally towards the toe and/or thin. The MBs lost about 15% on mis-hits, which is what I was expecting. The AP2s lost about 10% on mis-hits, and those sounded wierd on some of the mis-hits. For me, the CBs would lose 7-9%.

Results will vary, I'm sure, depending on a number of factors.

One thing that I feel is that of all of the sets AP1s, AP2s, CBs & MBs the biggest performance and forgiveness improvement from the 714s to the 716s is the CBs, closing the gap between the CBs and AP2s.

The one piece of advice I'll give is to hit the same club with the same shaft and length and lie and loft (if possible) in the AP2 and CB. Do this on the same simulator in the same session, because simulators can have different calibrations. If you can't get an AP2 and CB with the same loft (on average the AP2s are 1* stronger than the CBs), then assume 2.5-3.5 more yards per stronger degree. Look at both pure hits and mis-hits and mis-hit types. Compare pure hit to pure hit, toe hit to toe hit, etc...

I've had the 716 CBs (5-9, 1* strong, w/ new SM5s of 46, 50, 56, & 62) for a month, 4 rounds. My best before them was 87 (then 89 & 90) and my average was 95-97 (HCI of about 18 and improving). The 4 rounds with the 716 CBs have been 87, 84, 90 & 88.

I absolutely LOVE swinging these clubs.
