Impressions of T150s vs 716 ap2s

    Upgraded from 716 ap2s to t150s. I looked for this comparison before going into the fitting but found no result. Hope someone who is looking to make the same upgrade benefits from this comparison

    Top line: looks very similar except the stronger lofts on t150s.

    Feel: t150s feel more ‘thumpy’ and ‘clicky’ compared to the ap2. Ap2s feel like they provide more feedback on mishits. typical miss-hits - toe strikes- feel like hitting with empty tin cans on ap2s. T150s still provide clear feedback but feel a bit better with mishits.

    Forgiveness: T150s lose less distance with toe strikes. However, with pull shots, they also go a lot further, resulting in big troubles at times. This is expected with stronger lofts but a bit surprised

    Additional thoughts: Honestly wanted t100s going into the fitting. But was recommended with t150s and the numbers certainly pointed to t150s. Feel like t100 would be very similar to ap2.

    Was there a factor other than distance that pointed to the T150? While the T100 is more aligned with the AP2, those clubs are released 8 years ago and there was not a comparable players distance iron. If you know how the ball performs from toe hits, then maybe that is a better choice than the T100 with less forgiveness for off center hits.

    So my takeaway from your analysis is that personal testing is the best way to know what is right for you. Since everyone is a little bit different, anyone wanting to invest in the new irons should probably schedule a fitting and hit the different models and different shaft options. Great to hear you dialed in what is best for you. Those T150's are sweet sticks as are the T100, T200, and T350's.

    I was fitted for the T150s about a week ago and they are en route as we speak. I play 1st gen T100 and prior to that, the 716 AP2's. It has been a long time since I've played the AP2's, but I remember the 1st gen T100 being a significant upgrade in terms of looks and feel. I found forgiveness to be roughly the same.

    Comparing the T150 to the 1st gen T100 I observed major improvements. The top line and blade length appear to be roughly the same. The look is far cleaner. But the biggest thing was the amount of forgiveness across the club face. I hit a dead toe strike with the T150 that gave me nearly the same numbers as a fairly well-struck 1st gen T100 shot. The loft could account for some of that, but not all given the strike location. I found the feel to be really smooth compared to my old T100 set.

    Ended up going 1 degree weak on the T150 and blended with a couple T200's at the top end. Cannot wait to get my hands on them.

    I've been playing the 716 AP2 for the last 6 years and have a fitting for the new T series irons scheduled for this Saturday. I'm really interested in seeing how they perform in comparison. The AP2's have been my favorite among all the different irons I've played over the years.

    I have literally gone through the change you looked at and I must say, totally worth the upgrade. I did get a full fitting this time round which will have also helped.

    The trackman gave great feedback and, along with the better suited shaft and lower loft of the T150s I am gaining distance whilst maintaining what I loved about the 716s

    It’s a significant upgrade in terms of feel, forgiveness and length. Miss-hits with the AP2 716 feels very harsh compared with T150 or T200.

    That's great to hear. If I have the same experience, I'll definitely be making the switch.

    I'm not sure how much difference the 716's are from the 712's but I have the AP2-712's and the T-150's

    My initial thoughts on the difference are the T-150's are more forgiving on miss hits (thin and fat)

    The thin on the AP2's are very clunky, the T-150's you can feel but they still carry a good distance

    Fat hits on the AP2's are pretty chunky, the T-150's a better, but they may have a bit to do with a difference in the lie angle I had adjusted on the T-150's

    I do run different shafts on them AP2's have True Temper Dynamic Gold S-300's and the T-150's have Project X LZ 5.5's

    The Project X shafts are 15 grams lighter and I find the T-150's are much easier to hit with a mid tempo swing because of that

    The T-150's stop faster and fly higher than the AP2's but there is no signifiant distance advantage over the T-150's beside that. (again a shaft difference may be a big part of that)

    Both feel great on sweet spot hits, the T-150 is better on mis-hits IMO

    Played my first round with the new T-150's

    Shot 75, best round of the year by 2 shots

    Biggest difference between the T-150's and my old AP2's were

    1. Stopping power - The T150's stop on a dime, I actually switched from the ProV1x to the ProV1 to bring the spin down a touch as I was ripping them back a bit too much. I would typically try to land a bit short of the pin and have them release out but with the T-150's you can pin hunt a bit more even on down wind shots

    2. Better forgiveness on thin miss-hits. Maintained a better height and higher spin rate on thin shots, still had pretty good stopping power which the AP2's would run out more

    3. Very good turf interaction- They seem to glide a bit better through the turf. I don't usually take too much of a divot for fear of hitting a fat shot, but the T150's provide a bit more confidence in hitting through the turf

    Could just be the honeymoon period but so far they are doing everything as advertised

    Getting fitted for the first time next week. I’m currently playing the AP2 714 and I’m excited to see the difference in the new T-series irons. I’m worried about my gaping with the lofts being stronger than my AP2’s because I don’t necessarily more distance. I’m might be overthinking it but concerned about hitting off a mat and everything being based off of their launch monitors instead of seeing my actual ball flight.

    I was concerned about that too with my new T150s. The PW in your 714 AP2s should be 47deg, and the PW in the T150s will be 44deg. Depending on the loft of you gap wedge, as long as you are ok with possibly changing your wedges you will be fine. I had to buy an extra wedge to fix my gapping. The 52 deg in my old set was my gap wedge and now I essentially have two gap wedges: a 52 and a 48deg. I just bought the 48 degree vokey wedge to solve the issue and now I have perfect 4-6deg gapping between my clubs. It actually worked out nicely. My set goes:

    58 deg
    52 deg
    48 deg (old PW)
    44 deg
    Etc...

    I have played the original 09' AP2s for the past 13 years. Great clubs. I just got fitted for the T150's a few weeks ago and I have played a few rounds with them. They look and feel great. I was also hoping to leave with the T100s but the numbers suggested the T150s. From some of the comparisons i have seen online the new T100 toplines are similar if not thinner than the MB toplines.... Anyway, The 150s look very very similar to the AP2s. When i put them down next to my old clubs it is hard to see a difference. Only a very slightly slimmer topline and slightly less offset. I will say, the one thing I am disappointed in with the T150s is the 5 and especially 4 iron. At address you can see the back cavity sticking out which I cannot stand. The 4 iron (to me) looks like a game improvement iron, it is just too thick.

    I have a set of the Original AP2s, probably one of the greatest irons ever. Of course at my age, I need something with a little more forgiveness. One small correction. They were released in 2008 followed in 2009 by the 710AP2. When Titleist replaced the older AP numbers with the T series, the T100 replaced the AP2.

    Some of our members gone with a blend of T100s (longer irons) and T150s at their fittings.

    I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one still playing the AP2 710 which have been amazing for the past 13 years. However, I just changed to the T150. Still waiting to arrive but based on the various feedbacks, I doubt that I'll be disappointed.

    Great information and much appreciated. I am wanting to make the change from 716 ap2 to one of the new t series irons. Just patiently waiting for some courses to schedule a Titleist fitting day.
