  1. Calder has been playing golf for a little over a year (on a course) but has been swinging anything since he could stand. He's 7 years of age and absolutely LOVES to play golf. This past summer he won the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association 7-9yr old player of the year winning 10 of 10 events. He's always been asking however, "what's it like to have a hole in one?" This past Saturday it happened! Just like any other day he's not in school, or playing Hockey, he wanted to play all day (haven't done that yet but once). We only had time for 18 at our home course, Four Bridges CC. We were paired up with his past soccer coaches, a lovely husband and wife tandem. They said they have always seen Calder practicing and were curious what it was like to play with him. We were happy they joined us. As we approached the 15th hole and the US Kids yardages, it was a typical PW for Calder. Almost 70 yards uphill and into the wind! As he teed it up, we all watched as we always do as his ball flew high in the air towards the pin. The ball made it's pitch mark 8 feet short of the hole and rolled in like a putt! As Dad yells "YA BUDDY", and his soccer coaches laughed and shook their heads (as it moved him to -4 for the round), Calder ran up to the green arms raised! We were all excited! Calder made his way into the cart as Dad said, "Buddy you made a hole in one. Many wait their whole lives to get one and some never at all".....his response was "I mean, I'm happy I made one but I thought I would be more excited". We could see him smiling but he just wanted to move to the next tee shot! As we got back to the clubhouse, we explained to Calder that he had to buy his group (at least) a drink. We ordered 3 adult beverages and ordered Calder an Arnold Palmer, and Dad let Calder know "you need to buy the drinks since you got the hole in one....it's tradition". Calder then looked at us with disappointment as he was told he would have to give up $10 from his stashed loot he made forecaddying the week prior. He wasn't happy! "Why should I have to pay, I'm the one that made the hole in one?" - "you just have to it's tradition"......Calder went back to the chipping green alone and probably not too happy! The following Day, round two for the weekend, Calder hit it to two feet and made the putt for a birdie two. 3 under for two days on 15. When asked walking off the green, "Calder why didn't you make a hole in one?" Calder responded simply with: "I don't want to have to buy my group their drinks!" Ah the mind of a child! Memory of a lifetime! Cheers!
