For years, I played Shady Oak Golf Course in Baird, TX as a high schooler. It was the one hurdle between me and going to state in Texas…never made it to state but over 10 years later, here I was again, playing a 4 ladies scramble. First hole of the day was number 16, a 97 yard par 3. My 3 teammates had hit and I step up to hit my first shot of the day, a gap wedge, having a strong draw wind to a left front pin position. I hit what I felt like was a little thin wedge, drawing perfectly, but I saw it a little behind the hole, and based on the previous day’s practice round, thought it might have gone long. As I walk up to the green, holding both a wedge and putter in hand, I search the back of the green for the ball, not seeing it…about 5 feet from the hole, I had the inkling that it might be in the hole. Sure enough, with certain expletives, maybe spoken from my mouth, I saw something I had fully believed would never happen to me…a hole in one. Great friends celebrated me well, and me being the nerd I am, had to lay on the green showcasing my beautiful, brand new Pro V1 in the hole and be okay to not hit it the rest of the round.
