The golf season in Ohio slows down in late October for most golfers. On 10-22 it was 53 degrees with some wind. We were on the 18th ready to wrap up what had been a pretty long, cold round. I was golfing with some of my favorite partners. I knew I needed a birdie to win some Nassau money & to finally achieve a couple of goals I had set for the 2021 season. Approaching the 18th tee box I was tempted by the wrong kind of thoughts like “The season is ending — don’t miss those goals by a stroke or two”. But then, on the tee box I just went into the zone. I chose 6-iron for the uphill, windy 152-yard shot, chose my line and set up to hit it right over that one tiny leaf 12 inches in front of the ball. I made a smooth swing with sweet contact and immediately knew it was on line. It soared beautifully over a sand trap that guarded the flag tucked in the corner behind it. When it landed I knew I had my birdie chance, but then as it released I felt the excitement building as it started rolling right toward the hole. Then I started shouting, “Oh, come on! Be right! Be the right distance! It’s headed toward the hole! IT’S IN THE HOLE, IT’S IN THE HOLE!” I celebrated with my foursome like a kid at Christmas. With that one shot I got my first hole-in-one & achieved my 2021 goals of breaking 80 at Harmon for the first time with a 78 & reducing my handicap in our weekly money game to single-digits. I also won the back nine & tied for total in the Nassau — winning me enough money to pay for the drinks that I was glad to buy
! Very exciting moment for this recently retired golfaholic. Thanks Titleist for making a great ball in Pro V1x!
