I have been playing golf since I was seven years old. My Dad cut down some hickory golf shafted clubs for me, a Brassie (2 wood), five, seven, and nine irons and a putter. This is my 1st hole in one 62 years later at The Cove Golf Course, on Cape Haze Peninsula, FL Hole #13. Hole #13 is difficult short par 3, with a lip in front of the green and the green gently slopes from front to back. The course is always windy which make this hole especially hard to judge the distance. On this day, I was playing with two good friends on the 9th of January, 2022. The foursome ahead of us just cleared the green and were standing on the cart path just to the right of the green. I selected a PW for 92 yard shot to center of the green. I did not tee up the ball ( Titleist ProV1) but placed it on the grass to the right side of the tee box. I took a smooth stroke, I knew the shot was good and walked away from the tee while the ball was still up in the air. the ball hit the green but I could not see where because of the lip in from of the green...just then the foursome that was standing on the cart path cheered and informed me I had just made a hole in one. They said it hit six inches from the hole took one bounce and landed in the bottom of the cup.
I received a certificate from the Cove and of course bought a round for the patrons that were in the clubhouse at the time.
I will remember that day. I had always played with Acushnet and later Titleist golf balls throughout my golfing life and I will continue to do so as long as I able able to hold a golf club in my hands.
