This was about 12-13 years ago at a short Executive Course called the Hootch a little north of Atlanta. The course is sadly now a subdivision or office park or something terrible like that. I was playing with my nephew Brandon, my brother-in-law Mike, and my best Golf Frenemy, Rishi. Rishi and I are good friends but when golfing, it is serious hate filled business, not much friendly rooting for each other. Somehow, after all the years Rishi and I played golf together, neither one of us had ever had a clean sweep of an entire front or back nine. but on this day, we started on the back nine first and I had not lost a hole yet and the final hole for the side, (the 18th on the course) was a 147 yd par 3 was worth 4 holes, because of the push. I had a 6 iron and I chunked it and was 100% sure it was short of the green, the sun was low, and I could not see, but everyone else somehow could see fine. Rishi kept watching it and watching it, and said, "Dave, have you ever had a hole in one?", but because of our frenemy status, I knew it was a trick so he could tell me, "you suck" later like proper golf Frenemies do. I knew it was short of the green so I was not even thinking about it. I am looking around, but Rishi said it must be in, and still I know he is lying, however, my Brandon, then 14, goes towards the hole to look. I start to allow myself to wonder because I can't find the ball in the 3-4 inch healthy Bermuda rough just in font of the green, and because Rishi does not do prolonged jokes usually. It would normally be "Hey Dave good shot it ended up good, because he knows I cannot see, and I say "really" and immediately he says "No, you suck, you will never find it". But on this occasion, the "joke" had gone on well past the usual. Brandon gets to the hole, peers in and his mouth opens he smiles and reaches down in and pulls out my ball. It was a golfing miracle, Rishi actually smiled and congratulated me and without adding, "..but you know you suck, right?". It was a great day and finally someone won an entire side. I did not protect the ball and lost it in the water on the 2nd hole on the course! No sweat, because to have my Best Golf Frenemy who hates to lose and my family their to witness it was amazing. Thank you Titleist for letting me share my story here. :)
