On June 7th 2025 during the first round of our Polurrian Hotel Cup at Mullion Golf Club in Cornwall, Englands most southerly and most beautiful coastal links golf course (in my humble opinion), I played the short but tricky par 3 16th hole in what can be best described as wet and windy conditions. Surrounded by seven bunkers with the green sloping from front to back the pin was situated on the front middle section and played 124 yards off the white tees. I hit a pitching wedge into a strong right to left wind. The ball drew nicely riding the wind before bouncing once, unfortunately, I didn’t see the ball go in as the pin is obscured by the four front bunkers! However a player from the group behind was leaving the adjacent 15th green and looked up to see the ball roll into the cup ‘like a putt’!
Ironically I was the last to play in our three ball group with the others putting their shots to three and five foot from the pin respectively. It must have been written in the stars!
