Had several close calls and seen several hole in ones but never had one myself. Looking back it was just a day of luck. Camped at South Carlsbad SB and as I woke up to look over the Pacific sipping my first cup of coffee a dolphin jumped out of the waves to greet me. Went to Goat Hill Park GC with my fiancee who was driving the cart...I'm a 5 handicap but somehow had 6 birdies through 16 holes including a hole out from 30 yards out (behind a tree no less!). The day also happened to be a 24 hour detox from my phone so I was really noticing the sound of the birdies, the way the grass felt against my shoes and how I felt hitting each shot. Cut to #17...the pin was front right playing about 145 yards from the back tees. We were waiting on the group in front of us to clear the green so I asked my fiancee to film my swing (only time all day I asked). Aimed right between the flag and the center of the green. From contact off the face to ball trickling into the cup was 12 seconds...but I'd been waiting 27 years for those 12 seconds to finally happen. Ball disappeared and we went crazy. Gave up alcohol for Lent but had to break the fast for drinks after the round. What a day.
