  1. Hello All, Just purchasing a new SS Newport 2 but wanted to ask a couple of questions.

    1. Should I purchase 35” and cut down or purchase 34” add 0.5” of length?

    2. If I purchase the 35” and cut 1/2” and add a Superstroke GT 1.0 which is 5grams heavier than the standard grip will this offset the difference?... Or will it make the head feel light?

I have always played my putters at 34.5” but have never purchased an expensive putter like SC so cutting was never an issue.

Thanks for your replies in advance.

5g of grip weight won't do much to change anything.

decided if you tend to like heavier heads or lighter heads, but keep in mind that the newer scotty putters are playing heavier than they used to

for years scotty had his 35" putters at 330g, then 10g more in the head for every inch less in the shaft

on newer models it's gone up, so his 35 plays at 340.

it basically just boils down to what you like. but if it were me, i'd buy the 34, extend it, and if i didn't like the weight i'd drill the heavier weights to swingweight it how i like it (remove the weight and remove material from the inside of it). it's really easy to remove a few grams, much more difficult to add a few without affecting cosmetics.

If you like tinkering and have a scientific scale you can add lead tape to the hollowed out portion of the weights.
Very simple and easy to do.

A stock off the rack 35" plays 34.5" - they measure their putters differently than other manufacturers. I play 34" and had to order a 34.5" to get what I need.

5 grams of grip weight will change the swing weight by 1 point so in your case, making it play lighter. 1 swing weight point is equal to the weight of a dollar bill.

Do not lengthen the putter!!! You are adding too much weight and will throw off the balance of the putter.

You can also order a putter heavy. So instead of the standard 30 gram weights, you can request 35 gram weights. That will increase the head weight 10 grams.
