  1. Hi All!

Finally got a full bag of titleist/scotty going on, but the only club im thinking of swapping is my scotty newport 2 as its just not forgiving enough for me.

I am going to get fitted but was wondering if anyone knows what models are more forgiving?

Really struggling with pulling my putts

Putters are more about personal preference. If you're pulling your putts, it's a stroke issue.

Now that mallets have both face balance and partial toe hang models, there are options. Newports have a lot of toe hang. Sounds like the toe hang may be too much for your stroke closing the face too early.

I’ve used the 7.5 (LH/RH) and now that I’ve come over to the dark side putting (RH) full time, I’ve had some success demoing the 9.5 in store. It is ever so slightly more toe hang than the 7.5 and isn’t as prone to push as the 7.5. That’s an issue for me on very long lag putts.

I was fit to the 7.5 (LH) in a SAM studio. The 7 & 9 models are face-balanced. It was this fitting where I found I was between face balanced and high toe hang.
  4. I would consider the new phantom line...any of these models will be forgiving compared to the Newport 2.

    Cheers

I switched from a Newport 2 to a Phantom 5.5 about a year ago. I have been happy with forgiveness on off-center strikes and speed control on lag puts. Still struggle with face and path control on shorter putts, which seem to be mostly caused by turning my head during the backstroke and lifting my head trying to watch my putt miss left or right.

I would recommend a fitting and possibly a coach. SAM putt lab may help identify a flaw in your stroke and a coach would be best to help fix the problem.

I would repeat what Brian said. I did the same switch about 5 months ago and could not be happier. It has been a huge confidence boost for me on the green. Speed control was a big issue for me and my misses are more likely from path these days.

Give the new Phantoms a chance!
    I’m considering the 5’s and the 7’s.
    Excellent in so many ways!

Regardless of which putter you use, the pulling of putts will continue until you address the root cause. It could be an alignment issue and/or swing path issue. ideally, get professional help and build some practice drills to keep you from reverting back into you old ways. That said, changing up the style might help. Give the Phantom series a try.

Check out the new phantom lineup for sure! Stay away from the .5 versions as those will have more toe hang. I had this issue as well and went with a phantom x5s which is the center shafted model and I absolutely love it!

Putting is personal and I would recommend a fitting. Keep in mind that many tour pros are switching from blades to mallet putters. I'm sure a major reason is forgiveness. Good luck!
  11. I just switched from a Newport to the phantom 5. I love the 3 dot alignment. On the SAM I have a slight arc, but the phantom 5 performance was unmatched even though its face balanced and designed for more straight arc. My miss is in the heel and through 3 rounds this week and a few hours in the putting green I’ve yet to find a putter as forgiving. I thought I’d be 5.5 style as I’ve always used a more offset neck but the 5 feels like it was built for me. Love it!
  12. I just switched to the Del Mar and I can’t explain it but just the way it sits at address has vastly increased my confidence on putts. I love the look of a blade and the weight of a mallet so this was a perfect balance for me. I would definitely recommend giving the Del Mar a try.
