Need help with a middle school/junior high science project related to golf for my son

    Hopefully someone can help me and my son with this...
    My 13 year old son/8th grader wants to do his science project on golf. I know there are plenty of resources out there on the internet however most are a little dated. 

    I am looking for recommendations of what my son can do for a science project related to golf. We would love some help from Titleist and their R&D if possible.

    Although he is a straight A student and will most likely be Valedictorian of his school (private/catholic), he has not fared well in his last two science projects and his science teacher wants him to shine in the science fair next year. Of couse, I do too!

    An interesting project could be on how the dimples effect the aerodynamics of a golf ball and explanation of Reynold's number.

    what about simple trajectory equations and optimization of ball flight, Reynolds number seems a little advanced for 8th grade. You could also look into the material properties of golf clubs, cast vs. forged and the processing of that, or material selection and why golf clubs are made out of low carbon steel.

    Greg, if it doesn't require a display, you might be able to quantify the effect of temperature on the carry distance of a golf ball. I did this in college with the golf team. You might measure the deflection of a putt caused by wind at various speeds and length of putt.
