Official Tour Ball...?

    I really enjoy the discussions on this site and the different opinions of everyone. It's great to see so much passion. Thanks to all who've chimed in with their thoughts and feelings.

    I have another topic I'm sure will get some lively feedback.

    What does everyone think about having one official ball selected for Tour events...?

    I'm sure it will never happen with all the money involved with the other brands, but it would be interesting.

    An official ball of the PGA Tour. (Of course, Titleist would be my #1 pick).

    What do you think...?

    Interesting thought, however due to their eq deals it will never happen. The argument would be all balls conform to same specs.

    This ain't NASCAR where there is one chassis for all "makes of stock cars". What would be the point?

    I heard Gary player talking about this one ball for the pros only and the mere mortals can use what ever they wanted his point was the pros are getting way to long and some beautiful tough courses are being left out the tours as there too short for today’s pro golfer and it’s gona get worse he reckons with today’s technology moving so fast.

    Tour players can adjust to the shorter courses by hitting less club. In watching them on the boob tube, many are not hitting irons, fairways and hybrids of the tees, instead of the driver on some holes. I believe that accuracy has become more important than distance. But combine the both and you have that WOW factor. Some have it. Not all tour players are hitting their driver 330.

    Football, Baseball & Basketball have it, and each team uses it. In Football you bring your own balls (12) to play with??? Those are team games. Golf being an individual sport would be hard for them to make someone play with a ball they don't normally play as an individual. Golf has a lot of feel to the game and the ball being at the top of that list for feel...

    If everyone had to play the same ball I would do so too, but I'm glad I don't have too.....

    As long as the USGA says that a ball is on their list of conforming golf balls, I don't see a "Tour Ball" happening. It would be a case of bifurcation, which the Tour/USGA does not want.

    There are already enough rules regarding the ball. I probably don't have a popular view because I get so worked up about some who complain about the new guys.

    They have better equipment, work in the gym religiously, and as luck would have it, some of them just have plainly more talent. I applaud them in continually pushing the envelope.

    Next thing you know they will be wanting to give out participation trophy's.

    Looking at the numbers, I would say Titleist IS the official ball of the PGA tour. It is the ball that winners win with!

    Interesting idea though. Good topic.
