  1. Hi TT:

The local muni I play in NY, Mohansic, is having a 9 hole hickory shaft tournament. They are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the club. Two man scramble, period balls included. Anyone else ever play in one of these?

I haven’t but I had a fellow member that regularly played them. For the occasion he had all the clothing, last seen in total worn by Payne Stewart. As well as a ‘49 Buick driven on Sundays and to hickory club tournaments. His regular clubs were current Titleist.

Would you have your own or will the club be able to supply them? There is a vendor in KY that sells new ones. John Ashford has a sideline supplying hickory clubs in CA. He plays them at his charity venture, a.k.a. Goat Hill community golf course.

They use to have them at the first club I belonged to back in the 80's. Never played in them though. Have hit the clubs and find them interesting. I purchased a hickory shaft 5 iron at Goodwill Industries for three dollars and took it by our local muni to donate for display purposes in the display case. The second assistant immediately took it to the driving range and hit it with regular range balls and immediately snapped in in half. Not to happy with his actions. Some people in this world just have to be different and do their thing. Oh, he no longer works there. No quit the distance we are use to with today's equipment.
