Bill, A few years ago I went through this fun and exciting process, I was fortunate enough to have a few coaches contact me out of the blue, though I did not play many national tournaments. I am certain the process has changed a little bit, but If your son is already interested in a few schools, be as proactive as possible especially if the coach hasn't reached out to you yet. You can get all of the coaches contact information on the schools website, and start there. I can not stress how important good grades are, along with a good playing resume. If/ when you contact the coach and there is some interest, don't be surprised if the coach asks for a video tape or a cd showing the golf swing and some shots, again you are selling yourself to get scholarship money. I believe there is a few websites that will have more information about the recruiting process, but I at least gave you a little bit of a start. If you or your son would like to talk more, pm me.
