The Long Island Rail Road is a great choice as the parking and traffic around Bethpage can be tough on a good day. They shuttle you to the main entrance (at least they did for the US Open) and there are a multitude of places to board the train depending on where you decide to stay.

There are some local, cheap hotels, but they may not be so cheap around the PGA. Traffic is terrible on LI, so just be ready. Hopefully they’ll get the logistics under control and make it enjoyable for all. Ryder Cup in a few years too!

I’ll be there for Wednesday’s practice round! #teamtitleist

Having volunteered at The 09 US Open and a few other tournaments at Bethpage, the best option is the Long Island railroad to Bethpage. The shuttle from the station to the course is easier. Parking for anyone not playing and VIP Parking is at Farmingdale State College and bussed from there. Can take a while on the bus to the drop off point and walk to the entrance. The committees, local and state police do a great job with traffic control, its just a long trip. There’s National chain hotels, Marriott, Hilton’s etc and the really high end Garden City Hotel. It’s a really long course, so you may want to pick a different spot for each round to hang out at, bring a chair and comfortable shoes and enjoy the show. The grounds are beautiful and you should have a great time.

LIRR. Do not drive to this!
  6. Take the LIRR into Farmingdale. You can stay almost anywhere in the city or boroughs and catch the LIRR below Madison Square Garden and take it to Farmingdale. Check out Airbnb before booking a hotel as those can be outrageously expensive.

Take the LIRR to Farmingdale. Traffic will be a nightmare. Best to stay in city and take LIRR from Penn Station.

Or have a high school buddy who lives 5 minutes from Bethpage Black. Played Bethpage Black 35 years ago before the renovations. It plays a lot tougher today then 35 years ago. Trust me!
