Any recommendations to playing in Ireland - going there in August 2023?

Wow! There are a lot of great courses on the Emerald Isle. The only suggestion I can make is to play each course twice. You'll discover nuances of the course you missed the 1st time around. Have fun

So many courses, so little time. Besides the 5 that show up on all the Irish course tours, there are many more that are fine tracks. At the time of our trip, we went for other reasons than only golf and my wife was more of a beginner, so we stayed off the beaten path of the 3 figure greens fees. We played from County Donegal to Galway. Dunfanaghy is an old Harry Varner design and is in a little less than prime shape. But the hotel in town is charming and I have a photo of my wife literally playing from an actual beach to a par 3 green. Rosapenna is also in County Donegal. We also played Carne and Westport. Met the captains at both.

There is also the Northern Ireland tour ending at Royal Portrush.

Adare Manor will be a Ryder Cup site in 2027. It’s a parkland course and I tend to want to play links style while there. If you want to make your own adventure and not part of a tour, I don’t think you can have a bad time playing the Isle. Just remember rotaries move clockwise and watch for traffic from the right on left hand turns. Most courses will let you register a tee time from the US before you leave.

You've got time. Get a copy of "A Course Called Ireland" by Tom Coyne. A fun read and he reviews many courses, from famous, to off the beaten track.

I don't have a lot of experience there, played Ballybunion Old and Lahinch when our daughter studied a semester abroad in Limmerick. Want to go back in the worst way, spend more time and play more courses.

We make our own travel arrangements, and love the research and planning of it. The people are wonderful and you don't' need to break the bank.

    Good luck and have fun!
