    My local group is having a trip to Pinehurst in April of this year. Any recommendations for making this trip, since it will be my first time paying there? thanks and hit them well.

    Pinehurst town or resort? Guaranteed times on #2 and #4 usually require a stay with the resort. Southern Pines is the adjacent community. There are plenty of local hotels and national chains available. Outside of Pinehurst resort courses there are other Donald Ross courses like Pine Needles. Nearby is Tobacco Road. As well as dozens of other courses in that area. Y’all should have reservations by now. That’s a peak travel time there.

    I recommend the Resort brew pub to hit while there. Open to the public .

    Also "The Cradle" at the Pinehurst clubhouse is a great 9 hole par 3 course. It's just fun to make a loop around.

    My advice is to skip the crowded and overpriced courses at the Pinehurst resort. I always enjoy staying at Pine Needles and playing the 2 courses there. Also, Tobacco Road should be on your bucket list. There is really nothing like it.

    I agree that the Pine Needles resort is an excellent alternative to Pinehurst. At the same time, since it the OP's first time visiting the Pinehurst Resort, I would definitely put up with the crowds and play N°2 and N°4.

    I played Pinehurst #3 last weekend and it was really fun. I've played Southern Pines, Pine Needles, and Tobacco Road. I love them all. Southern Pines was a fun course, but my all time favorite is Tobacco Road. Great course.

    Been fortunate to play Southern Pines and Mid Pines in the last couple of years and we are playing Tobacco Road in April on our way down to Augusta.. Really looking forward to playing Tobacco Road as I have only heard good things.

    So many great courses to choose from. Outside of Pinehurst, think about Pine Needles, Mid-Pines, Southern Pines. I'm hoping to have a Mike Strantz day this Spring, playing the recently restored Tot Hill Farm and Tobacco Road in one day.

    Pinehurst #10 opens in April. I would love to hear a review if you play.

    The best way to do Pinehurst is spend a few days at the resort and a few days in a short term rental. Not sure if the length of your trip will allow this. Pinehurst #10 opens in early April so I would recommend staying at the resort and playing 2, 4 and 10, plus 8. Although reservations may be tough to get since the US Open is there in June.

    The trio of courses under Pine Needles (Pine Needles, Mid Pines and Southern Pines) is great as well so if you can’t get the resort then that is a good way to go. Throw in Mid South club as well.

    I like Tobacco Road but don’t play it anymore out of principle now that they raised the rate to $280. I live in Pinehurst (and am a member at the resort) and when I have guests in town they always prefer to pay the $280 guest fee to play #2 vs same rate for Tobacco Road.

    Have played both Pine Needles and Pinehurst 2,4,8, the Cradle. The Pinehurst Resort is worth the investment. Check on line, you can find some bundles that make it affordable. Hoping to head up and play number 10, the latest addition to the Pinehurst collection of courses. Stay on the property; shuttle service to all the facilities. Southern hospitality at it's finest. Buffet breakfast in Carolina Hotel to die for. Been there many times for business and pleasure. Go park you car and let them take care of you. Pine Needles is a nice course, but it is not Pinehurst.

    The US Open will return to Pinehurst in 114 days from 02/17/24. My wife and I drove up from Charleson in 2005 for the final round of the US Open. Drove up in the morning, bought some souvenirs, watched some golf, walked the course with Rory Sabatini's wife for the front nine. so crowed on back nine got in car and drove back home and watched the rest of the matches on TV. Had a great day.

    The only thing similar between Pinehurst and Bandon is that they have multiple golf courses and great experiences for golfers. Must do them both as they each stand on their own merit.

    Love Pinehurst Resort, it's courses, amenities, history, and ambiance. Truly America's golf Mecca. If it is your first time, you must stay at the resort and at least play 2 and 4.
    That said, it is pricey. Lately, I get almost as big a kick out of playing Pine Needles, Mid Pines, Southern Pines, Tobacco Road, Talamore. These are awesome and highly recommended.

    BTW, you picked a great time to visit. Weather should be great, azaleas in bloom. Enjoy!

    My friends and I went to Pinehurst for the first time last September and we had a blast. Yes, there is a price to pay for staying on the resort but the service, convenience, and the experience was completely worth it. The on resort brewery has good beer and bbq so I second that as a good spot. My favorite course when we were there was course 4. I would go back to Pinehurst in a heartbeat and will the next chance I get. My friends and I cannot recommend it enough. We missed out on the Cradle and that seemed to be on everyone’s list when we were there. Plan as early as you can as tee times fill up fast. Not all courses require a resort stay but with the US Open and course 10 opening this year, there is a lot of buzz. Tobacco Road is not a course we had a chance to play but looks amazing and should be a good alternative.

    Was there last September as well. First time and had a blast. Stayed at the Carolina and couldn’t have been happier. The entire experience was very memorable. We played Pine Needles before our resort stay at Pinehurst. Great option if looking for something extra. We played Cradle, 2, 4, 8, and 9. Looking like we are heading back in the Fall again to play 10, 2, 4, Cradle, 3, 5, 7.

    Since many have chimed in on where to play I thought I would suggest some off course activities. Definitely spend some time in Pinehurst village. There are some interesting stops there including a golf memorabilia shop. Get a bite and/or a beverage at Dugan's. Check out the Donald Ross archive at the library. Golf Pride has a facility at the entrance to #8 that's worth a stop. Depending on how busy, you can get clubs regripped while you wait. Take a trip around Thistle Dhu, the putting course behind the main resort clubhouse. Southern Pines has quite a few good spots for dinner/lunch. Chapman's is my personal favorite.

    I have enjoyed staying on resort and off resort. Off resort have stayed at Mid South Lodges and Talamore Villas and played those course as well. Other courses that were enjoyable were Dormie Club, Mid Pines and Pinewild CC. Every trip there has been a great experience. Enjoy

    I’m kind of gonna just say what everyone else has already said. I’ve been there multiple times. I’ve played 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 at pinehurst. I’ve also played mid pines, pine needles and Tobacco Road. If you are staying at the pinehurst resort no. 2 and 4 are a must play. 8 was a lot of fun and they are opening up no. 10 I believe in April so I’d wanna play there. Like everyone else has said the cradle is an absolute blast. Do not skip the cradle. Tobacco Road is a blast but be ready for blind shots out the wazoo. Mid pines and pine needles were very similar to the no. 4 in the style of play but still elite. You can’t really go wrong with any of them down there tbh but IMO 2, 4, cradle and Tobacco Road should be must plays.

    I couldnt agree with this more. My wife doesn’t understand why I love the place so much and it’s for this reason exactly. It’s just different than anywhere else I’ve been. Been very lucky to play oakmont in Pittsburgh and because I was an “outsider” you could almost feel it. Pinehurst makes you feel like family or one of them and it sets them apart from other places IMO.

    Spot on. They treat you like family. The hospitality is second to none; the southern charm is real. It is a special place. Can’t wait to go back this Fall.
