I’ve got the big 70 coming up and my wife suggested a trip to Ireland to celebrate the milestone. I’m second generation with all 4 of my grandparents being from West Cork. I’ve never been to Ireland so it’s definitely a bucket list item.

Any thoughts on where to play and stay in the southwest part of the country? I’m looking for mid tier pricing. I’ll probably play one”bucket list” course.

    Thanks

The (expensive) tours will include Ballybunion and Lanich. Pick your bucket list course early as they tend to book out early. Adair Manor is the next Ryder Cup but it requires a stay and the price is 4 stars.

A few years ago my wife and I played the west coast and avoided the high ticket courses Galway Bay and Carney Gol Club were 2 modest links courses we enjoyed. Galway Bay is not far from Shannon. Carney is quite a hike but Tom Coyne (A Course called Ireland) calls it his favorite Irish course). Worth checking his book.

I’m 4th generation and we’ve traced my heritage to 10 km NNW of Blarney County Cork). Visited the patch of farmland identified by Ancestry this past summer. After the European Club on the east coast, i didn’t play golf along the south and southwest. Visiting woolen mills and other forms of sightseeing was my penance for golf since my wife no longer plays.

Consider flights to Shannon if you want stay close to the SW of Ireland

Been to Ireland numerous times for golf....you can't go wrong with Ballybunion, Lahinch or Waterville. Those are some high tier course.
Be sure to stop and see the Cliffs of Moher....spectacular!!
The Ring of Kerry is absolutely beautiful.

    Enjoy your trip Mike!
